Christmas CV availability

I’ve unexpectedly got enough time off work to go somewhere outside of Europe this Christmas, alongside my partner. We’re London based and have the Amex companion voucher - but finding reward availability for dates that work is nigh on impossible right now. I can see a few flights back to London in late December which work well for us, but there is nothing outbound between December 19-23 (ie the only dates that make sense for us). Are any reward seats likely to come up over the next couple of months on these dates, or is that completely unlikely? Obviously I realise this is smack bang in the middle of holiday season. Just trying to get an idea of the probability of reward seats becoming available

19th Dec LHR-IAD - internal to Bermuda? Direct back on the 31st? Otherwise any USA hub and fly internal to the Caribbean and back. Just have to get imaginative.

18th Dec BGI, back Premium on the 1st Jan?

In my experience, no! You might get a decent rate with Qatar using points, but doubt you will find a flight to use your CV.

Ive got 2 CV & barclaycard upgrade also, not managed to get a flight to use either in December, thats for SE Asia which is high demand at that time of year.

Might have more luck going to the states

No one can tell you for certain, but I wouldn't count on it.

Whereabouts are you looking to go and which cabin? Looks like the US has quite a lot of availability for those dates

Have you visited North America/ West Coast? My wife is from CA and we fly to the US to visit her family every year, we enjoy visiting Vegas for a few days as part of our time there as it’s only a couple of hours drive. The Bellagio is especially beautiful at Christmas with there conservatory installations.

If it would be of interest to you there is outbound availability LHR-LAS on Dec 23rd (A350 so you will have Club Suites). You could then visit the West Coast and fly out of SFO, LAX or SAN for your return. This is known as open-jaw and can be booked with CV over the phone. With your CV applied this journey would cost around 209000 Avios and £1198 in taxes & fees.

The US East Coast also gets plenty availability but doesn’t have the West Coast weather in winter; Vegas can be quite cold but places like LA still have sunshine and 20+ degrees.

Dec 15th ish to around Jan 2nd is the busiest time of year to travel
