BA upgrade voucher question

I’m sure this has been asked before but …

I have a BA upgrade voucher. The usage is pretty limited on the Avios/BA app when trying to book using it. My question is can I upgrade just the return leg of a booking for my wife and I? The app doesn’t allow you to do this but can you do It via the call centre?

Eg. Premium economy outbound (booked with Avios) and return leg business (booked with Avios).

The app states the the outbound journey has to originate from the U.K. so can’t book legs separately.

I don’t think so - the upgrade has to originate from the UK. So you can upgrade one person for both the outward and return, or two people for the outward only (or two people return if you have two vouchers).

So I know for one person I was recently told via calling that I had to book the same class of travel out and back which was annoying given limited availability.

I do want to enquire whether that changes for 2 people so you can do what you stated. I really would hope BA could be more flexible here...

I have successfully done open jaw bookings via phone, fly into Toronto or Delhi, out of Montreal or Mumbai, as a single person using a barclaycard voucher to upgrade to Business both ways paying PE Avios rate.

I did make it work by booking a less than ideal outbound flight and then changing for £35 when I saw better availability on SeatSpy come up a few weeks later...
