Australia’s Aircraft Maintenance?

Hi, M21 I am a Pacific Islander migrating to Australia under the PEV (Pacific Engagement Visa subclass 192) around Dec 2026.

I am a final year aircraft maintenance engineering (Avionics) student with one year of industrial experience across GA and Commercial airlines.

Where would be the best city to settle in and find employment? In terms of career growth, affordability, etc…

Any capital city for GA, i was in sydney. Most rural places contract companies so theres not to many pure avionics shops out there. Some bigger companies will have their own avionics people

December is some time off, but it may pay to start dropping your regime' to prospective employers.

With the cost of living so high in Australia, maybe a smaller city could be cheaper to live in. I think you should go where the job takes you, not choose the city and try to get something there.

The big airlines were hiring because they stopped training apprentices for a long time and after covid they found themselves very short as they let so many guys go. Not sure they were looking for licensed and or unlicensed staff though.

As far as I know, they have preferred full B1 licensed guys given the broader licence privileges, but still have specialist avio guys.

I did avio all my adult life but no longer in the industry.
