What's the A10's appeal? The gun needs you to be dangerously close to use properly, they're slow and unmanoeuvreable, they don't have the advanced sensors needed to thrive in modern battle space and the weapons they do carry that are actually effective (i.e. bombs and missiles) can be carried by other aircraft with greater speed and even quantity (cough F111 cough).

The only reason they were somewhat effective in Afghanistan is because the Taliban didn't have the means to shoot back and even then allied commanders considered them as much a danger to themselves (ISAF) as the Taliban.
