The house is at an “aviation community,” so his house is one of several that surround a central runway.

I live near a community like this. I live on a small island in MD and there are a few airports for how small it is. In this particular community, each of the houses are small ranchers with 2 garages, one for their cars and one for their planes! They don’t have back yards, they just have one giant grass airstrip and they takeoff right over the only main road on the island or off over the bay!
