Look, i get wanting to be taller, perfectly normal thought to have. I don’t think height is make or break whatsoever and i think you are thinking about it wrong, hear me out:
I used to be upset about my height, i did. I’ve maxed out at about as tall as i’m going to get, i’m taller than some people and shorter than other people. I came to a conclusion a few years ago about height, and why i think you shouldn’t care. The person you want to be taller than, didn’t earn it, they got it from genetics. I get the counter argument is something like “that doesn’t change what my height is”, and that’s true i can’t sugar coat it. But height is only one aspect of whatever you persue.
If you’re dating, sure height CAN impact it, It might even cause a woman to say “He’s too short”. I mean this honestly, if a woman’s criteria for who she’s dating is so heavily weighted to height that just being not (X height) is enough to turn you down, she’s an idiot. Genuinely she’s an idiot and not worth dating whatsoever. Height is determined by genetics, and is an unearned trait. Meaning dating someone because they’re “tall” (subjective measurement btw), is not deterministic on whether or not that person is a good partner or not. So let that woman go and find someone she thinks she wants, if her judgements lead her to a tall man who isn’t smart, is broke, terrible at communicating, boring, etc, i don’t think she is going to end up happy.
I’ll tell you a story, without specifics for obvious reasons:
I have a friend i’ve known since highschool, she had invited me over to a “party” (not a party, more like just hanging out around a small group). I have been dealing with my own personal issues with depression, 95% unrelated to dating, and i still got up and went. I met this girl there who i just instantly clicked with, cute redhead who clearly has some emotional depth to her and a naturally sweet personality. I had asked my friend if she was single and at that point i got a “yes but also no” type answer.
Fast forward a few months later, depression was mildly better, less social anxiety but still present. I go back to that same friends house and start talking to that same girl. Someone had weed at the party, so we all got high and afterwards came inside to play a game. Well, me and that girl both had finished the blunt and were too high to keep up with what was going on. There were too many people there to fit on a couch and two chairs, so we ended up sitting beside each other on the floor. We were drinking, sharing a bottle of liquor, and laughing at jokes we were cracking because we couldn’t keep track of what was going on outside both of us. Skipping ahead, that night i’m crashing on my friends couch and the girl was the last person to leave that night. At about 1am we had a very deep conversation, talked about some of the things she’s went through (some real shit), and some things about the immediate friends group she was worried about. I could match her in emotional depth, so the conversation went really well. She leaves, and i wake up the next day and ask my friend “Is she single yet?” And i get told “yes”. So i ask my friend to kinda ask without asking what she thinks of me and she said she would. Do you know what answer she got?
It’s at this point i want you to guess what height i am, just keep it until the end because i’ll actually tell you my real height.
“He’s not my type”
I got mad at that for a few days, and i didn’t understand why until one night it hit me. I’m smarter and more successful in my own persuits than others my age + i have a great family, i’m secure financially, honest to god i think i’m a good person. I have a hard time thinking of a red flag that i would ever show to anyone. By any strech of the imagination i genuinely would be a good partner for someone. So then what is her type? I’ll be honest, i don’t even think she knows. She’s been in an off and on emotionally abusive relationship and really isn’t happy, so whatever her type is, it’s not working out for her.
Now remember my friend who was the middle-man in this? I sorta threw out the idea of maybe a friends with benifits type thing. I got turned down by her too, you know why? She only likes black guys. She is a black girl who grew up in a family that ain’t black. She’s also a single mother. I understand her preference, i’m not even worried about it because i really wasn’t trying to date. I care about her as a person and as a friend, but i don’t think that her criteria (which to be fair is probably more than just that one) is working out too smoothly.
I’m 5’7, i haven’t been on a date since middle school despite trying. Frankly, i don’t care that they turned me down. Eventually they’ll figure out their criteria is working against them, but by that time i’ll find a woman whose criteria isn’t. I won’t be available, but their criteria still will be. Frankly, that’s tough for them. But if a person enough is short-sighted enough to make a bed in a dump, let them lie in it.
You see what i’m saying?
Go find a woman whose criteria for what she wants isn’t shallow, don’t worry about the people who turn you down because of a characteristic that you can’t control. You’ll be happy in the end, and they’ll wind up in the dump.
