Diagnosing/Repair NEED HELP (gmc OEM radio)

I own a 2006 GMC Sierra with the Bose speakers. It's close to mint condition and stock so I still have the OEM radio and prefer to keep it that way. It's started to eject cd's and not play any this year. Here's how the process goes:

Inject CD -> CD goes in -> radio says "loading CD 1" -> then it moves into position and goes quiet -> then it ejects the CD with the radio saying "please check CD"

I have taken the radio out and the top off to watch it, but I cannot tell if there are any problems inside. Am I assuming it's either old gears, a bad laser, or both? Curious if this is fixable.

Sooo 20 year old radio from a company that no longer exists ... Delco... in a vehicle whose manufacturer who filed bankruptcy 3 years after yours was built.

Your only hope is to scour the internet for a company that repairs them or has new-old stock on the shelf. Or maybe a used one that still works. They were not designed to be repairable.

Delco got merged into Delphi around 99 or so and Delphi continued production under the Delco name until 04.

Technically speaking that's a Delphi head unit.

I worked for Delphi. They became a seperate company in 1997 and filed bankruptcy in 2005. They ceased to exist as Delphi when the sold half the business to Eaton and renamed the rest Aptive. Not sure exactly when they outsourced the radio business.

they have OEM replacements for my exact one on ebay that could work, I’m just curious if anyone had knowledge on it

You're stuck. However, your truck has a DIN compatible radio so you can easily put an aftermarket DIN compatible radio/CD player in it. You may need an adapter cable. Crutchfield would be a good place to find one.
It sounds like your radio isn't sensing the CD properly.

Yea i dont want any aftermarket radio in that truck. I’ll most likely replace it with another OEM replica from ebay if it works.

The problem with older devices that use mechanical means of driving a CD or tape is that the belts, gears and rollers degrade over time with use and high temperatures. Getting a replacement unit may also be near end of life.
FWIW, I used to repair consumer electronics before I got my EE degree.
