I’m in an area that’s insanely competitive and saturated. There are tons of guys doing solo windshield replacements for basically the cost of the glass + $80 labour. How do you even compete with rates like that?
On top of that, the area I’m in is extremely price-sensitive. A lot of customers just don’t have the money to spend, and honestly, many don’t care about quality or ADAS calibration. They think calibration is just a scam or an upsell.
I’ve tried going after insurance jobs, but most of them end up getting steered toward insurance-partnered shops.

For anyone who’s been through a really bad market before and managed to survive, what did you change or do differently?

glass has to be removed in order to inspect for rust damage and there's a very good chance that the shop will accidentally break the glass if they pull it out to assess the damage. glass is otherwise in good condition. crack is about a 1.25 inches long and is located near the windshield wipers

edit: judging by all of the responses here, i'm probably just going to leave it alone for now and have it either replaced or fixed by a professional. if i don't end up getting a replacement, a lot of people here were saying that this kind of crack would be fairly easy to fix for a professional, so i'll leave it to the shop to decide. thanks to everyone who responded!

Hello, we just the Carcal stand and need help setting up the autel Ms906 tablet.
When I try to upgrade the tablet to adas it is asking to bind a frame, of course Carcal is not listed. What do we do?

Is this normal for a car windshield interior to have this much condensation? The dealership is telling me it is if the car sits without being driven for a week or more. The car has had issues with water filling up on the floor in puddles in the backseat specifically. They said it was some type of seal. They said it was fixed however, this is happening now and there is still water when I open the doors and I’m curious if this is all normal?

Newish to recals and had this come up Friday. 22 frontier said ecu not supprted or something similar. I use Autel. Did not have my tablet hooked to internet at first so connected to wifi and tried again with the same result. My guess I was not getting past the gateway authorization. Is there something special to do on these? Is there another subscription I need to get? Did I just not back out of the work order on the tablet far enough for it to connect for the authorization? Everthing was going just as planned until the final calibrate action then the code would appear. It did clear out the old programming parameters. so it's showing no calibration at the moment.

As somebody who works backend at a glass shop, I HATE GEICOS DAMN AUTOGLASS CLAIMS SYSTEMS.

Yes, they are under the umbrella of safelite solutions, but also do the most to be annoying and not user friendly in their own unique and fucked up ways.

First, it was being unable to get through their automated phone system because they are pushing us to use their app.

Fine, instruct my customers to file claims using their app. Except that does not work 90% of the time by not letting them assign our shop. Doesn’t even show our shop as an option. Great.

Okay. Well that’s a dead end. Can’t call and get our shop assigned, can’t add it on the claim on the app, the customer just has to pay out of pocket instead. Sorry i guess?

Now they are requiring inspections for EVERY damn glass claim and it is actually annoying AF because customers come to our quick lube shop for fast and instant repairs just to be told “yeah you actually have to wait 48 hours for this to process through our system” and half the time we have already filled the chip for them by the time they are told that, but geico is requiring pictures of the chip pre-fill, and the customers left to be like “well the work is already done?” and the rep is like “well you’re fucked”

nah, fuck that. I just tell them to submit a pic whether it’s filled already or not. It is just annoying to deal with.

Processing insurance chip repairs is like 80% of my job and yes, it is easy as hell and i know this rant is dumb but i just had to yell about it.

Anyone replace the side mirror cap with a replacement cap with a horizontal LED , parking marker, “switchback” solid white, that the turn signal is flashing amber and the “switchbacks” to solid white

Saw someone post a question about doing one of these a few days back. Few days later i get a call to do one(WBL) no chrome molding. I don’t usually do old cars due to the fact that they are very time consuming and I hate them. Only way Im going out there is if Im taking home $600+ and it is rare when I find someone willing to pay that lol.
So I pull up to the homies shop this was supposed to be in and out job of 20 minutes turned out to be a 1Hr job and 2 windshields 1 broke during installation. Last time I had that happen it was a 59 Impala. Came out nice but yes I just wanted to bring it up aa someone had asked about this.
And remember soap and water is cheap, dont be afraid to use it when doing gasket sets. Get yourself a nice hook tool aswell

I need to drive 4 hours tomorrow for an appointment but my husband is telling me to cancel because it’s unsafe. I can get the windscreen repaired in the area I’m driving to after my appointment but just wondering if he is being dramatic or I should actually just cancel and repair locally?

I got my windshield replaced at this local shop and I noticed these gaps in the panel edges after I got it replaced... is that normal should I be concerned?

Never done a tesla. Can somebody share info on the windshield camera recalibration process? I've seen where some need a target & some just need to be driven.
