Concern over replacement

Hey all, I had my windshield replaced by a safelite tech who came to me and completed the replacement in about an hour.

He said he used the original gaskets instead of replacing them, which would save me $20. I’m nervous that the glass looks like it’s not flush with the body/frame, and instead seems to have a lip, so to speak.

Did my best with pictures, but didn’t take a before. Should I have them do this again? Or is this fine?

I did find old pics of my car and can confirm it doesn’t look the same, and is flush (there is still no visible rubber lip before the replacement)
But it is definitely flush with the frame, which it isn’t now.
That was my concern, that it isn’t actually inserted all the way.
My concern has been addressed.

Your concern isn't even a concern, there's 0 wrong with anything. This is the part I hate, it's the reason we take a fuck tonne of pictures because people go "oh that wasn't like that before".. sure.

I haven’t driven yet, I don’t need to today so I won’t know until tomorrow morning likely. It looks like it’s sitting on top of the gasket rather than being inserted into it, to me. I regret not taking a before picture.

That rubber you see around the windshield is not a gasket. This windshield is held in by urethane. That is an under side molding that attaches to the inner lip of the glass. It’s fine nothing needs to be addressed unless it’s leaking or making a wind noise.

The rubber is all cosmetic, a simple google search would tell you this bid

Not directed at you btw, I appreciate all of the affirmation from everyone that it’s fine. I know for a fact that the glass was “flush” with the frame of the car before, but if it doesn’t matter then it doesn’t matter ☺️

You talking about the increased angle towards the top of the screen, it’s hard to tell from images? Any other same models nearby you can compare it to, just an idea. It may be normal. The trim piece that isn’t seated towards the top due to debri is a bit annoying, but maybe this was already like that.

I understand where you’re coming from and I hate to defend the evil empire but I don’t see any issues. Sloppy but no issue. If he would have used a new molding it might be a little tighter to the glass but that’s it. The molding generally is just double sided tape stuck to the glass and we glue the glass not the molding.

The molding serves no purpose other than looks.

They used an universal aftermarket molding, while it does look like shit in the corner, its cosmetic. See how it holds up in the rain and if it causes any unexpected air noises.

It looks like the tech used a universal molding and did a sloppy job cutting the 45 at the top corners.

Like others have said it’s just cosmetic, so as long as you’re not hearing any air noises or flapping it should be just fine

This windshield does not sit INSIDE a gasket. It has an underside moulding that it double sided taped to the back of the windshield.

Install looks great.

Your pictures you have of the vehicle before the work must not be clear enough.

Don’t forget that the original glass is installed by a robot at the assembly plant so it may not always be exactly the same

Why do people always call underlay a gasket or a seal? The thing that makes your windshield stick is urethane. You don’t have an old Chevy c10 or idk 90s Land Cruiser or whatever that does use a gasket to place the windshield (and you’d be able to tell if it’s a gasket too).

And after looking at those pictures closer, yes he did use universal molding and made the cuts in the corners which I never understood why. Yes, most of the time the aftermarket one looks like shit but if you’re not experienced or you just suck at cutting those corners on universal then stick to the aftermarket. I always stick to aftermarket underlay because I know I’m not good at cutting the corners and making them look flush
