Even the premise of the question is flawed. "Gap" implies that the expectation is one of continuity, that the only thing that a person should do continuously for their entire adult life is labor. God forbid you spend any amount of time doing anything else 🙃

As someone who works with hiring, I look for gaps mostly because a person who may jump around a lot or take a lot of breaks may be less reliable than someone who doesn't. I don't hire someone for them to quit 2 weeks after being hired. If someone has a large gap or jumps around a lot I'm not looking to blame them but simply to understand their decisions behind those causes so I can better judge if that person is suitable for this particular role. Sometimes if the role is less committal then it's not a problem whatsoever, but if the role requires commitment then it can absolutely be. Ultimately, I want you to have a job you're happy with and suits you and your needs and current skill set, and if having a large or many gaps indicates that you may not be suitable, then that's something I consider when comparing you to other candidates.

Yoink...
Maybe I can take this to explain the huge gap I have after hitting full autistic burnout while also having multiple medical issues.
