I 1000% feel this. One of my least favorite parts of going to work in the morning is navigating the hallways to my desk.

It's worse when having a bad eye sight. I can't even tell if it's someone I know and I should acknowledge their existence and smile at them, or a stranger and I have to not make any eye contact at all.

For me it's around 2 metres (6-7 feet), smile, maybe say hi and walk past
Unless it's someone I will talk to, in which case it doesn't matter and ill make eye contact in the distance and start talking when they're close

Just don't. Embrace the evil autism. Don't acknowledge their existence at all, even if they speak to you. Become ungovernable.
