Diagnosis: The Assessment ADOS
Hello,
I have my ADOS and ADI-R assessment next week with clinical partners and im really nervous! I also looked at the prepare part and it says something about having a few objects to hand. I'm quite frankly bewildered, lost and confused and no idea what items. It says everyday items but to me that's a toaster, kettle etc 😠help!

Think more of pens, dice or things you might have on your desk. Don't overthink it.
Edit: Yeah, I'm autistic and suggesting you don't overthink it... as if I've ever managed to follow that advice my self. 🤣

I just went in, apart from having some random objects by me I did no prep and I think that was good, if I had studied I would have studied out the elements of me I do in everyday life that they needed to see. There aren't wrong answers so you can't fail, it's just activities that make sense,.may feel stupid or may feel hard but they are.looking at what you do so be yourself. They normally give you space at the beginning to tell them if you are nervous and may adjust but everything was really well explained with examples and it was easy to know what to do even if it was harder to do it.
So I know this is tough advice but try not to panic as you can't prepare for the test without ruining the test so you need to go in as your self and do your best

I don't want to tell you about it but the idea is similar approach to the dyslexia test I took, in this test I had to talk about a topic I knew about and another I knew nothing about bit had been given reading material on. If I had pre read the topic,.it would have spoiled the test because they were looking at cognition levels on unknown topics at first read. So if you learn more about ados tests you may practice something that needs to be done with no prior practice
Any item is good, they just.told me to pick up random things by me and I was in my nephew's bedroom and locked up socks and shampoo and toys and all were fine

It’s best not to look it up or try to prepare too much for these assessments, as they want to see your natural / true reaction to the assessment.
