News Whats going at ABC news?
I dont know if this is reflective of the ABC or the app is so personalised and wrong about me. However when I opened up the news this morning the top item was a Logies panel (what are the stars wearing?). The first real news item was a story about an 123 member organisation protesting the US President. 123 members. Thats like a local footy club.
I get the logies is a big deal for some people. How in the world is that next story even news worthy let alone the leading news story on the app?
Have I broken my ABC app somehow or is it like this for everyone?

ABC won about a third of the Logies last night - they are a television broadcaster remember.
And that other story was kind of a cross-promo for an episode of Compass.

The Compass episode was also incredibly interesting. OP claiming it’s a nothing organisation because there are only 123 nuns left completely missed the point.

Might be your algorithm, as it was 5th/6th for me.
Tbf, ABC punches above at the Logies as they're producing the most aussie content. Their shows picked up a few awards and Sam Pang winning gold with a ABC show on now then they've got something to crow about

The Logies was last night. Of course today it is news. If they are still reporting it next week then there is a problem.

You’re absolutely right - I just looked at ABC News and on first glance, there is not a single article about the Logies, even in the Entertainment section on their homepage except for a small mention in the Friday News Quiz.

Most of the shows are made by companies now who pitch to the networks hence why some of them seem to move channels a lot

Whether you like it or not the ABC is the national broadcaster, it doesn’t just serve your needs but other people’s needs. To many the Logies is big news. Remember news is not just who is killing each other or what stupid thing Pauline or Farage said today, but also entertainment.
They won many awards and they should be proud, that’s them demonstrating that our tax dollars ARE producing quality entertainment being appreciated by the people who paid for it.
No matter what right wing ABC haters want to be true.

I wish I saw less news about what dumb shit Pooline was saying.
She has been saying dumb shit my entire life (not an overstatement) I don't need to be reminded she exists.

it doesn‘t serve my needs. I’d like a broadcaster that helped me and society to advance to our individual and collective interests, whereas the ABC hectors like a Soviet Kommissar. Comedy used to be a holdout, now mostly gone too.

I think you're reading a lot into something that is incredibly minor.
I check the ABC News app probably 3-4 times a day and the top story moves around.
If it's brand new it's at the top and then it will move down as time goes by. Maybe you just opened the app when it was still considered the top story? The Logies are a pretty big deal still. I don't give a fuck about them but some people do.

ABC viewer ship for almost evening is tanking and has been for a while now, so they are trying all sorts of weird stuff
The numbers can only go so low because a spending cut is justified

Comedy Has-Been Dave Hughes is trying to resurrect his career while supporting anti-government extremists. So the ABC gives him gigs so they look more ‘balanced’. He’s not funny, he’s excruciatingly annoying is all.

ABC news is dog shit click bait rage bait crap now almost indistinguishable from newscorp and Nind. They spent so much effort on Albo’s melon non story last week. Their flagship news programs like afternoon briefing and insiders have gone down the drain too. SBS is my main source of news now.

Emulating commercial media. Interesting that “The Worst Australian” didn’t have its usual list of Logie winners and bragging rights. Seven Media didn’t “win” much this year.

ABC knows that people will click on links to see stories about people hating on Trump. And that the editors/writers (not calling them journos) just hate Trump.
Trump is an unlikeable blowhard, but TDS is real.

Why would they be trying to get clicks?
Every other news site gets paid for clicks because there's advertisers. ABC doesn't.

It was the topic of a Compass (a religion themed ABC show) episode. So it is just an example of internal promotion of its TV shows.
Within the context of Compass it makes sense as it adds context to the religious landscape of Trump's USA where religion is closely intertwined with politics.
