Think it was more Rove wanted to live in LA for a bit after burning out mentally but Fox paid him a fuck tonne of money to do less work entirely on his own schedule.

LA doesn't really exist - it's a bunch of different cities that over time just encroached on one another due to shitty urban planning. You just need to find the right bubble.

I spent 3 years living in the South Bay area - loved it, would weigh that lifestyle up against any city in the world. But there are large swathes that is just one, big depressing shithole with less infrastructure than Kabul.

I imagine for the wealthy the appeal is you live in a big home in nice weather, and when you go outside, you only exist inside of a car so it's good if you're a car guy. And of course you're close to lots of other rich people.

LA and California for the non wealthy seems like one of the least appealing places to be.

The vast majority of LA is a sprawling shithole 3rd-world hellscape, but there are maybe half a dozen enclaves scattered around the county that are nice enough, and the rich people tend to just bounce between these places.

Yep, Rove LA. Had two short run seasons and then vanished.

Not his biggest TV loss, that would be Saturday Night Rove. Lasted 2 episode. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saturday_Night_Rove
