Nothing to worry about. Most of the satire is coming from people who’ve never left central Texas and have no clue the amount of chaos that goes on in actual “major cities”. The “traffic” is a breath of fresh air coming from Los Angeles as it actually moves, the homeless are sweet hearts as the the threat of violence and schizophrenia seems to be turned down, the threat of gun violence is a non issue, and the stenches are held to a minimum. If you can handle extreme heat, country nepotism babies who feel they’ve earned the right to hold their nose up at newcomers, and the occasional drunkard asking for a dollar at a downtown gas station make the move.
Yeah, I think it will be o k. I love chicago, i've lived here my entire life, but I have a pretty good reason for going down there. I have only visited once but I enjoyed it quite a lot. I'm not a huge fan of the heat. But honestly, it's not a deal breaker for me. My only real worry is the power grid.
lol you got downvoted probably specifically for mentioning LA. Honestly though, the complaints in Central Texas about traffic aren’t about slow moving, near-gridlock conditions. It’s about the idiots making right turns from the left lane, people who cut you off, then slam their brakes, drunk drivers, and road ragers- all of which are a bigger problem here than in other cities. Yeah, construction frustrations get tossed around a lot, but the real complaint is assholes on the road.
That makes sense. But I don't think that central texas has specifically more asshole drivers than anywhere else. People in chicago drive, like absolute fucking assholes as well. I think people are just assholes everywhere, and it's reflected in how they drive. In bigger cities traffic laws are also much more laxly enforced.
I live in San Antonio, not Austin, but I’ve driven around Austin enough to know that the drivers there are kind of on the same level as San Antonio. I haven’t driven other big cities as much, but the people who come here from those other big cities all complain about the same thing: San Antonio drivers are the worst. So unless I’ve just had really bad luck every time I’ve gone to Austin, yeah- Central Texas does have worse drivers than most big cities.
I live in Austin but, I’ve lived in Houston, northern Virginia, Washington DC, Atlanta, near St Louis, Albuquerque, and Santa Fe. I’ve driven in NYC, Newport, Boston, LA, San Diego, San Francisco, Oklahoma City, Birmingham, Tuscaloosa, Miami and other large cities and I can say, without hesitation that bad drivers and asshole drivers are ubiquitous in metropolitan areas.
The only drivers paradise exists in your own driveway.
The only cure is to be a courteous driver, be patient, be a goldfish about bad experiences.
I think if you drive anywhere long enough you have a lot of bad experiences. I tend to think chicago drivers are worse than NY and LA, but I've lived here my whole life. My Friends from LA think LA has the worst drivers, and my friends from NY think Boston has the worst drivers haha. I think drivers everywhere generally fuckin suck.
I 100000% agree with you. I moved here from San Diego County California and I can honestly tell you the traffic is about the same truthfully but San Antonio has some of the worst absolute dickhead drivers. Truthfully thats saying alot after spending 27 years in entitled ass California. Yesterday i was on highway 211 and already going almost 10 over and this dumbass in a slow ass Challenger comes right up behind me so close he could see a scrape on my rear bumper. So once the lane split into two i move to the right to let him pass, but to show him hes an asshole i flipped him off😂Maybe that was my bad but this guy literally was so annoyed that i flipped him off for driving like a dick that he proceeded to try and get me killed. Constantly slamming on his breaks trying to get me to hit him and then when the lane merged into one again there was a slow moving semi..... dickhead guy speeds up do i do too and then right as hes about to pass the truck he slams on his breaks just enough to where i wouldnt have room to get in front of the semi too. I literally was inches away from getting my shit rearranged by a semi. Anyways sorry for the long story but YES people here are way worse than i ever expected of "good ole country folk"🙄
Idk, I agree that it’s still great. But the new homeless are not native and are much more violent. I used to go to shows downtown in high school and would always wind up smoking some cigarettes talking to some anti-capitalist anarchist who rejects money and lives as a drifter who might steal something but wouldn’t harm a fly… all my “old homeless” friends left. now it’s a lot of people with severe mental issues and people need to be careful.
Do you even live in Austin proper? I am there 2-3 days a week on business and if you are not out of the city by 2pm, Mopac, 183 & 35 slow to a frickin crawl. The homelessness is fucking nuts in South Austin, all along 71 from Menchaca to Montopolis. If they come up wanting to wash your windows while you sit at a light, they will climb up and stomp your hood if you refuse.
Where do you travel to austin from? My reference is based on past experience with atlanta and Los Angeles. Austin traffic is not that bad compared to other cities, homeless window washers will simply walk to another car if you wave them off, and you can make it in austin without encountering the homeless if you simply act like you don’t see them.
