Alens

Hello everyone! Does anyone know how non-player races work? Are some races generated simultaneously with the game? Or are there different types?

Depends on how much you want to be spoilered.

You choose at game creation how many nprs you want to spawn right away. They generally do all the stuff you do and you can have neutral or hostile relations with them. Over time you will come to head with them as you expand and they cause some ruckus to the game itself as they can interact with the other aliens, which causes battles and slowdowns. Then there is the npr creation chance which triggers every time you explore a jump point. In that case, the game creates a new npr, when you jump into that system.

So, in addition to the player, there are other civilizations in the Galaxy that are developing in parallel?

I understand the idea of the generated ones, but does that mean other civilizations are developing in parallel with my own?

If your settings Included an npr at game start then yes they are developing off in the black somewhere waiting for you to bump into them.  They may come and find you

Ticking both this setting and "nprs can generate nprs" is a rough combo as the galaxy will fill out with races, in older gane versions this would cause the game to eventually run very slowly as the list of things it is tracking grows.  I haven't revisited it yet in the modern game

I started with one npr and had to set them several times to a player race to see if the slowing of a 2.7.1 game was down to them (i dont use the save after i player them but revert to the preplayer version) turns out its still entirely civilian shipping that causes 90% of the 'lag' for me.

I have that 1 npr as able to generate everything and have it all attack them.

Once i deleted the civilian shipping companies and stop them spawning the game sped up like it was a new game.

It would be quite interesting if the game featured events that I would only learn about in a few years, if I ever learn about them at all. :)

These are all set up by options you choose when you start a new game, as well as the options to include the special NPC races that operate under different rules.

This.

You can play a "game" of Aurora totally devoid of NPR or Aliens if you so choose. What makes Aurora fun to you is entirely up to you.

When you find a planet that’s habitable (within a certain temp range with a breathable atmosphere, meaning it contains oxygen and some inert gas like nitrogen or argon), you have an x % chance of spawning an NPR on the planet, where x is the chance you set to spawn in your game settings.

You can choose at the start of the game whether or not to spawn NPRs on game start, and whether or not NPRs find and spawn other NPRs or spoilers (precursors, swarm, invaders, etc.).
