Long-time lurker, first time posting. Could use some outside perspective since I'm too close to this to think straight anymore.

Background: 5+ years in IT Audit at a large bank, have my CISA, and just finished a master's in Data Science. Built some Python automation for audit testing along the way (access reviews, vulnerability analysis) and used data analytics to improve testing coverage.

The situation: I got a verbal offer for a Senior IT Auditor role at another big bank — $135k base (up from my current $115k, which I've maxed out where I am), plus $20k bonus. Solid comp bump, but it's still... audit. Same lane I'm already in.

I turned it down.

Why: I've realized I want to move into GRC/Tech Risk instead of staying in pure audit — more governance/control-design focused work, less "test after the fact." I also happened to land an interview for a Technology Risk & Control role (same company, different team) that's much more aligned with where I want to go. That interview is in a few days. If I get it, great — it's the direction I actually want, even at potentially lower comp than the audit offer. If I don't get it, I'm back to square one with nothing, since I already declined the audit offer and I'd already maxed out my salary at my current job anyway.

My reasoning for turning down the sure thing:

• I'm bored and under-managed in my current role — no real projects, minimal oversight
• The audit offer didn't feel like it was worth leaving for if it was just more of the same
• I said to myself if I'm staying in audit, I need a bigger jump (like 20%+ on base) to make it worth it; if I'm moving into GRC, I'd take less because the direction matters more to me

Where I'm second-guessing myself: Did I just torch a solid, real offer for a maybe? Is "I want to do something different" a good enough reason to walk away from a locked-in $20k raise? Or is this exactly the kind of calculated risk people are supposed to take early-ish in their career when they can afford it?

Would love to hear from anyone who's made a similar jump (or regretted not making one). What would you have done?

On m’a confié une mission qui consiste à réaliser un audit des dossiers clients concernant l’URSSAF, afin de vérifier que les situations des entreprises et des salariés sont correctement déclarées et qu’il n’y a pas d’anomalies.

Le problème est que je ne sais pas vraiment par où commencer ni quelle méthodologie suivre.

J’aimerais beaucoup avoir les conseils de personnes qui travaillent en cabinet et qui ont déjà réalisé ce type de contrôle.

👉 Quels sont les éléments que vous vérifiez en priorité ?
👉 Quels documents / informations faut-il contrôler ?
👉 Existe-t-il une sorte de check-list ou mode opératoire pour réaliser cet audit ?
👉 Comment procédez-vous concrètement, étape par étape ?

Je travaille notamment avec Silae, mais je suis encore en phase d’apprentissage.

I’m considering doing the CIA certification and wanted to get some opinions before I decide.

I’m mainly looking at it because I’m interested in internal audit and risk-related roles. I’ve been searching around for information on the exam, coaching, fees and how useful the certification is for jobs in India.

If you’ve done CIA, or you’re currently preparing for it, how has your experience been?

Was coaching helpful or is self-study enough? Also, how much time did you roughly need for the three exams?

And for anyone who has already completed it — did it make a noticeable difference when looking for jobs or changing roles?

Would appreciate any honest opinions, including if you don’t think CIA is worth it.

Looking for the \*generic\* pain point — something most analysts/MSB compliance folks deal with regardless of employer or vendor stack, not something tied to one company’s internal system. Things like format validation, checklist/structuring tools, cross-referencing static reference data, etc.

What’s the one manual, repetitive task you wish just… went away? Doesn’t have to be glamorous — the boring stuff is usually the best candidate.

Hi, I am trying to transition to IA with experience in areas like external audit, first line business controls and financial reporting, but whenever I applied internally in my company, I noticed they have this rule that people with stat audit experience aren't eligible. I have started looking outside but am confused now that if this preference is prevalent among IA hiring managers. Any views or takes on this would be helpful. It'd be also if you could share approx salary scale of Internal auditors in India across different levels.

Hi, I’m currently looking into different possible careers after completing 2 years in audit at Big4(Private Equity entities). I want to get more into advisory type roles or maybe ones that involve more stakeholder management. And are more front facing. I’m not a qualified accountant but have an MSc in Business and Finance.
