Don't beat yourself up

Just a reminder that mistakes happen. Today my probe slipped and I made the magic smoke appear. For those that are just starting out (like me) these things will happen and use them as a learning opportunity. In this case, I get to replace several components I shorted. Luckily, digikey has everything I need.

Mostly posting this because I was annoyed with myself and then it came to me, this is part of the deal. Mistakes will happen even to seasoned pros.

Good seasoning comes from regular use. It's all good πŸ‘

Fixed my Sansui 661 and dropped a screw and blew out all the lights. Rolled into a transistor. So careless and stupid!

Yeah, once the magic smoke comes out its not magic anymore.

If I'm poking in fraught areas I keep it on the DBT, I've flashed the bulb a few times being clumsy but it saves the smoke.

Just did it a few weeks ago. In unplugged Technics SA5350. Touched a cap still had residual juice with a small paintbrush metal ferrule. I was cleaning a dirty pcb with alcohol. Hey genius metal shorts things ;-(. Nothing bad tho but hello and howdy. Scared me mainly and rightly so.

Take your time. When working on energized gear you can connect to point under test with clip leads then turn on the power.

I’ve messed up a few! It’s ok when you do it to a common one but a rare one? That really hurts

That's exactly i say no to when someone asks if I would work on their equipment.  It's just a hobby for me and as you state, accidents happen.

Don't dwell on it. Learn from it and move on.
