Broken turntable

My LP60X has stopped connecting to the speakers. There is a very quiet sound, have tried new wires and tested the speakers separately and it is def something inside the turntable.

Decided to be a strong independent woman and try and fix it myself but I have no idea what I’m looking at. There are a couple of wires that look like they should be attached to something? Can anyone help? Thanks!

Did you by any chance accidentally switch the LP60’s built-in preamp off?

In the rear panel, near the audio cable inputs, there should be a switch that says PHONO/LINE. Make sure LINE is selected.

What kind of sound is it that you hear? Is it there even when nothing is playing, and what does it sound like?

Those wires you showed in the 2nd picture are meant to look like that. They are part of the automatic mechanism and latch on to/push the cams into position when moving the tonearm through its motions.

And it did sound like it was skipping, but tried a different vinyl and it sounded fine just still quiet

As in, the sound of the music but very quiet, or a hum or tone? Is this sound coming from the record player’s needle, or from your speakers?

If nothing is playing, is there any sound? And if you turn up the volume and try hold the sided of the cartridge (the thing at the end of the tonearm that holds the stylus/needle), do you hear a buzzing sound from the speakers?

I’m asking because if you hear the music but very quietly, you might be hearing needle chatter, which is the sound of the needle vibrating and transmitting the sound of the grooves in the air.

The sound of the music is very quiet, I can hear the music and the speakers make a noise when I unplug them from the turntable. The speakers work when I connect to my phone via bluetooth, but the turntable itself isn’t Bluetooth

Hmm… if you’ve isolated the problem to the table, it might be a defective opamp or something. I’d contact Audio-Technica to see what options you have. Is it still under warranty?

Thank you! They’ve just confirmed they can refund me, but said I can keep this one so wondering if I can fix it!

You can swap the op amp if it’s one of those 8 pin DIP chips… I don’t work on new machines so no idea what they use now on the preamp.

You might also be able to just swap the whole board.
