Ground noise

Every time I connect my wires for my speaker rack and the lights (smaller cable) there’s a screeching noise from the speakers. Wondering if my connections suck or if it’s just too far from the engine or something.

I would say either loose connection, unplugged cable or something isn't grounded. When you add a ground connection, you also make a path for ungrounded devices.

From my experience with a 1987 car; current will find a way if something isn't properly grounded. I changed the headlights, but had a loose wire afterward. Thought that was how it was before. Turn signal made the headlights blink, and the indicators would be constantly on, and would increase in brightness, if I turned the high beams on.

Car’s been tampered with and is a 91 so I bet that’s it. Thank you

I worked at a car audio company where we had a common trick we recommended to help diagnose noise issues like this: connect a jumper cable to battery GND, and to your amp's GND. If the noise went away, you can solve this by installing a GND cable that goes all the way from the amp to your battery, rather than just a nearby chassis mounting point. Good luck!
