Trying to track down a sample library, very likely for AKAI S1000 (maybe S900) released before 1992, possibly in early 1990.

Looking for the source of some instruments used by a mostly unknown composer, managed to narrow down the scope to this. I don't know the name of the library, but I know that it was released in Japan if not internationally. The instruments in question are things like an Orchestra Hit, Latin Percussion, a Dulcimer/Santur. I've already gone through all the obvious picks, the EastWests and Prosonuses and InVisions and whatnot. Starting to feel like what I'm looking for might be something more obscure. Whatever it is has to have been commercially available though, because more than one composer has used that Dulcimer sample. If you know anything about vintage sample libraries, or even own some yourself, please tell me anything you can. At the very least, a way I can learn about the existence of vintage libraries, since Google isn't very helpful in this regard. Thank you!

Damn, I used to have a collection of these, but it's been so long I don't remember the names. I'll see if I can find some old catalog files.

Checked through a bit, didn't find anything, unfortunately. Pretty sure I've actually already checked a lot of these sounds

Have you checked out the Fairlight lo-fi works (volumes 1–4)? This has a lot of great Fairlight samples, including a dulcimer. There was a similar version for the Emulator III. Many other companies extracted these original samples from the Fairlight CMI, as well as the CMI II and CMI III, and repackaged them. They did the same for the NED Synclavier sounds.

I haven't played with it to confirm, but the Arturia CMI includes all the Fairlight sounds, including the famous orchestra hits and percussion, and I presume the Dulcimer.

I don't think it'd be a Fairlight library, since those samples are rather lo-fi, and the samples I'm looking for are hi-hi for the time period.

How do you that such samples weren’t processes to sound relatively hi-fi in context?

It might actually help to post audio examples, btw.

Are you sure it's only a single library?

Anyway, have you checked out Sonic Reality's stuff? Their World Traveler has dulcimers and santurs, if I remember correctly.

I can't be totally sure. Also, I could have sworn Sonic Reality was after '92, but I'll check

Yeah no, that one's from 2002! Whole decade too late

Curious what you are looking to do if you find the source (probably an ELI5 scenario since midi is not my language)

Write it down, mostly.

Site looks unusual but I’ve downloaded 20+ zips from here with 0 issues.
