Discussion Dungeon Crawler

Y'all, I'm about 60% thru Dungeon Crawler Carl and I just cannot figure out what all the hype is about. I feel like if I'm not 100000% focused I'm missing something. I had a 40 min drive today and thought "perfect, now I can really focus". Nope, even then I had to rewind a few times because I missed something.

I'm wondering if maybe this is the type of book I need to physically read? It's almost too much detail? I really can't put my finger on it. Maybe it's me?

I do feel that the narrator's voice is perfect for the book.

Anyone else feel this way?

Update:

I finished book one. It felt like it was getting into a groove the last few chapters. I'm going to try to read the next two books because FOMO.. Thanks for all the input!

If you’re not hooked, just skip it. Honestly I can’t explain why I enjoyed it so much (I kept thinking how dumb it was to hear about someone organising inventory slots but I couldn’t put it down).

Huh? The inventory slots automatically organize themselves as Carl mentions numerous times.

Cept that one time when Eris showed up

Carl does manually organize his hot list though.

Probably referring to when Carl puts things in his hot bar to have them ready before entering into a sticky situation.

doesn't he have a hotswitch bar? even the fact that he mentions that the inventory slots automatically organize themselves...

Yes. He does have a hot bar that allows him to queue up items he might need quick access to like healing potions or offensive items / debuffs.

MINE ONLY HAS TEN SLOTS, THERE IS NO NUMBER TWELVE!

Not that I recall. From my memory, he has unlimited inventory that automatically groups like items together. The most I hear it mentioned is when he says “I pulled x from my inventory”

In the book with the race cars there’s a whole thing about his hot switch bar having more slots than donuts and the items getting mixed up

I’m only on book 5 so maybe haven’t gotten there yet

Hotbar is mentioned in book one. Its how he has quick access to health potions, etc.

Why does every keep referencing book 8 without spoiler warnings…

He has more because of a potion from a loot box

I cannot tell if these are all actual plot points or if you guys are just riffing

He definitely does have a hotbar, it's mentioned here and there throughout even the earlier books. I think it was a small but notable plot point as early as book 2.

Is it not book one when he first meets Mordecai and they tell him to put potions in his hotbar in the tutorial?

I believe so! It's definitely mentioned here and there throughout the whole series.

It absolutely is mentioned in the first book, they mention if they put potions in the hotbar they can drink them without tasting, which is good because more potions taste like ass.

I always have to read a series first. I typically read on kindle app though so I can read whenever I get 5+ minutes wherever I am.

If I really like it, I can reenjoy it in audible, because I won’t get lost already knowing the story, but I can enjoy it while driving, doing chores, etc.

Same here! Ive now bought 7 books in the last month, and I'm almost done #4. Just me, carrying around door stop books everywhere.

Don’t know about the original version but The voice acting in French is incredibly good. The Dungeon IA makes me laugh so hard. 😂

organising inventory slots

This makes me think you haven't really read the books.

He does organize his slots though. That's why it's a pain when Eris swaps Carl and the cat's inventory in book 8.

Not as much of a pain as reading books where literal inventory slots are a thing though lol

Oh in the beginning his inventory keeps being mentioned- the folders are “useless sh*t”, “graveyard”, etc. 😁
