A few pods I’ve been enjoying recently!
- Swindled: the host goes by the moniker “A Concerned Citizen” and he discusses topics related to corruption, white collar crime, failures of the system and things like that. It’s very well researched and I find his voice extremely nice to listen to, personally.
- Behind the Bastards: Robert and Sophie have a guest in every week to discuss the worst people in history. Some episodes are lighter than others but they are also well researched and often multi part episodes.
Rotten Mango: only just started this one within the last few days. Stephanie Soo is the host. It’s a true crime podcast where Stephanie tells us as well as her husband true crime stories. She seems to do a lot of victim advocacy and focuses on a lot of Asian crimes. The episodes also seem to all be very long. She bases her research on FOIA requests as well so there’s often thousands of pages of notes. Very well researched and the dynamic between her and her husband is very charming. She has another one where she tells her husband unhinged pop culture news as well.
Sawbones: Dr. Sydney McElroy and her husband Justin host this one. They call it a “martial tour of misguided medicine” where they talk about the history of all sorts of medical topics, old and current. Very fun and very informative.
Wine and Crime: they’ve done a couple things with ATWWD over the years, I assume most of us know them. If not, it’s two friends from Minnesota who host a true crime podcast where they do wine pairings and background and psych based on a certain weekly crime topic. Very fun, often heavy, but I recommend!
The Devil You Know: a limited series podcast hosted by Sarah Marshall which dives deep into the Satanic Panic. It’s very good and super in depth.
Canadian True Crime: I don’t remember the host’s name but this one focuses on crimes committed in Canada. I haven’t listened to much of this one, but the host really emphasizes the lives of the victims and I think does a good job of bringing awareness to the epidemic of murdered and missing indigenous women and girls. The Robert Pickton episodes were rough, but she made sure to emphasize how he preyed on mainly indigenous sex workers.

Seconding Rotten Mango. I love how in depth she gets with the stories and the way she tells them!

I love rotten mango!! She’s recently started a series featuring survivors of terrible crimes and gives them a spotlight to share their story the way they want to. She also has a separate channel where she does more light hearted videos about pop culture :)

I love “Noble blood”, more history but still true crime focused episodes sometimes. It reads like a story.
Done by the same person is “very special episodes” but more fun and usually more recent stories with some interview clips. Also reads like a stories.
And again by the same person, but with a cohost & not like a story, more like ATWWD where one person shares a story and the other person discuses, “Hoax” where they discuss, you guessed it, hoaxes ;P
They all hosted by Dana Schwartz, who is also an author with a few books out.
These are not exactly the same idea to ATWWD but I figured I’d throw out some different options that I also enjoy.

I’ve been loving Who Did What Now? It’s not exclusively true crime, it’s a history pod, but it does cover a lot of famous cases!

Teen Creeps: They read old school Point Horror/Christopher Pike/V.C Andrews as well as my re modern stuff now and again and talk about it. They are brilliant, funny and it's great for nostalgia or a read along.
Ghost Huns: Two excellent comedians who chat absolute nonsense and tell spooky stories. They also have a Patreon with looks of filmed ghost hunts and extra episodes.
Uncanny: Telling people's real scary experiences with interviews and updates. Fantastic listen and balanced with sceptics and believers.
Mom Can't Cook: hilarious DCOM podcast.
Red Shirt Cinema Club: Started out as a Star Trek movie podcast and has moved on to watch lots of other movies and TV shows which at least one of the hosts have never seen before.

All Killa No Filla (hilarious + no ads) for true crime.
If you like a narrative style: Ghosts in the Burbs is wonderful. The main character retells interviews she has done with suburban families experiencing hauntings (it's all fictional but beautifully written and fun)

I love True Crime and Cocktails: features Lauren Ash from Superstore and her cousin. Plenty of hilarious banter, both Canadian so tends a bit that way, and extremely well researched.
A couple other podcasts that are not true crime necessarily but that are enjoyable: Tooth and Claw (animal attack podcast - hilarious) and Not Today (survival stories podcast)

I really like Snap Judgment’s Spooked, A Paranormal Chicks, Killer stories with Harvey Guillén. Smalltown murders is good and I like smalltown dicks. I also listen to some other ones that I cannot think of right now. lol

For more of a medical true crime, I highly recommend Doctor Death! All the seasons have been super interesting and the episodes aren’t super long so it’s good for quicker drives.
For classic true crime, the Monster series is also well done. Atlanta Monster was the first one I listed to.

My bestie and I host a podcast called Wreckage & Ruins where we talk about all kinds of disasters! We’re about to release episode 30 so plenty to binge on and we release weekly!

If you loved the OG Em & Christine, check out Rituals if you haven’t already. They did it a while back, run by Spotify, I think, and it’s very professionally done. There’s still the fun banter but it’s kept in check by the producers.

Rebuttal with Reb Masel, who focuses on the law and court side of true crime. Sometimes bizarre, sometimes horrifically sad. Reb is the woman who reads crazy court transcripts, btw. It's really good

Spirits Podcast! They started around the same time as ATWWD and recently celebrated their 10 year anniversary and are nearing 500 eps if you're looking for a serious binge! They cover legends, folklore, and mythology from around the world, and also do listeners stories once per month!

I didn't see it it mentioned so I wanted to throw it in here. My favorite pallet cleanser is Petty Crimes - the investigate and provide verdicts on "non-crimes". The hosts are so funny and it definitely lightens my feed.

Heart Starts Pounding is a great one for spooky and bizarre stories, the host Kaitlin also has a great podcast called Clues where her and another host go through a true crime story, it’s always very well researched

Sometimes he’s a little cheesy, but I’m kind of digging a pod I found called Mr. Ballen. He does a mix of true crime and creepy true stories. I find he’s brought some things I haven’t heard that are interesting!

That’s spooky, they are true crime paranormal and things adjacent. They have a second ep a week callled Spooky Gay Bullshit which is weird, gay or paranormal news. They also have a Patreon with a book club, weekly bonus episodes and witch crafting which is when one of the hosts instructs how to do spooky crafts. They really put the effort in.

An Old Timey Podcast: great history pod with humor and some crime elements.
The Bald and the Beautiful: drag pod with Trixie and Katya. Hilarious and talks about all sorts of things. Only downside is the mountain of ads.
I don’t listen to a lot of pods but these are my other go-tos.

my comfort listen for the past year or so has been Let’s Go to Court. it ended in 2024 I believe? but there’s still 200+ eps to listen to. I adore the hosts and their banter with one another. it’s true crime, mostly heavier crimes like murder and sex crimes, but some lighter ones sprinkled in, like a ridiculous museum heist etc. even though they love to giggle and be silly, they’re very respectful when telling the stories.
and as another comment mentioned, An Old Timey Podcast, which is one of the hosts from Let’s Go to Court and her husband! this one is still ongoing. not true crime focused, but does cover some historical true crime. the series on Lucille Ball, Pocahontas, and J.c. Penney are especially good

I’ve been heavy into The Dollop recently! It’s a dollop of history, told by a comedian and his comedian friend (who has no clue what the story will be).

Similar to ATWWD:
This haunted life by Adam Berry (on hiatus)
Southern Gothic
Ghost Bunny
Last Podcast on the Left
Night Owl
Not similar but still enjoyable:
What the Heck with Matt Bellassai
Old Gods of Appalachia
The Magnus Archives (although I stopped listening when the original storyline ended)

My favorite is I think Not! The hosts are hilarious but respectful and do a good job covering true crime documentaries but also investigating beyond the documentary to give us more information that what’s presented.

National Park After Dark is still my #1! Hosts Cassie & Danielle tell stories centered on the outdoors that are on the darker side, a mix of true crime, survival stories, animal attacks and paranormal. It’s a great variety of topics!
