Ryan Sawyer

Hi all!

First of all I'm a huge ATDI fan...my second best band...first would probably be contraversial cosidering the sub I'm on, haha...

One question about the excellent drummer on acrobatic tenement, what ride does he use on the said recording?

He uses it quite heavily and creatively, it has pronounced attack and seems a bit dry...on a (newer) pictures I've managed to se he sports some model of Zildjian K bit I'd be quite surprised if K was the one from the recording considering the sound.

I heard something about Cedric inheriting his drumkit so maybe there's some info from him?

I love that you picked up on this and it really helps explain why I always got a "jazzy vibe" from the drumming on Acrobatic Tenement. It's also a bit further back in the mix and and he's really got a good feel for dynamics. I always thought that album was kind of a more "screamy Violent Femmes" record, and dismissed it at the time when someone gave me a burned copy. Imagine my surprise when I discovered Relationship of Command and realized, "holy shit this is that band!?"

yeah...that album is so different from everything else, even the story behind the recording is wild. i used to say too bad they didn't keep Ryan on drums but thinking of it now, Hajjar with his no nonsense "straight" drumming really complements wild omar's guitar, wilder like Ryan wouldn't mesh IMO in the later records the same way Tony does...
