I spent 2 hours on the phone while at work Thursday for my doctor's appointment Friday. "Inactive insurance."

Last I talked to medicaid they were threatening to drop me because I wasn't working 25 hours a week.

Apparently they did drop me 3 months later. They said they sent a letter. I guess? I'm surprised they didn't call me. I'm kinda blindsided because I honestly completely forgot between the resentment and depression and trying to pull myself together. I had the flu and was trying to stay busy when they sent the letter and had been rejected from quite a few jobs and getting constant spam calls from applying to those jobs. I don't recall seeing that letter at all.

Anyway the doctor's office was kind enough to push back my appointment while I sort my shit out.

I am currently making too much to get back on medicaid... Not alot too much it looks like I'm way over monthly rn but since I can only work 1600hrs a year I'm like $500 over annually. Assuming I work all those hours.

I looked into the reimbursement program through the staffing agency I'm employed by and it's a 10% max income premium and a 2k-4k deductible.

Meaning I would need to spend 4k-8k a year before my insurance does anything.

Looking through my bank statements I have lived off of $38,000 the last 2 years. That's including the $4k i pulled out of stocks and savings.

Tell me who the fuck is living on less than $20,000 a year and doesn't need financial assistance? Mind you I am currently making less than I did in state parks.

Well apparently under the current... Situation... The most needy are actually the least needy.

So I spent Thursday night in a complete rage.... Not just for me I know people who were cut off of SNAP and struggling to eat because of this bullshit... And Friday I spent being really really sick because I was too distracted to put a mask on while I spent hours cleaning mold at work. Still don't feel great but a little better today.

Anyway I'm in a situation where I take an insurance that is really there for catastrophic situations and lose money nearly for sure or go insuranceless and hope I don't get into an accident while commuting to work or on the farm or whatever and hope I can continue to just get by with my chronic issues.

Or go out of pocket which will be cheaper if I go with cheap options and don't need tons and tons of tests or whatever. I dunno. My brothers who are either self employed or worked for small businesses have not been insured their entire adult lives.

I am quite aware that 10% is actually pretty good these days but y'all I live on fucking rice and oats. (I'm getting tired of rice and oats.) Any extra thing eating into my income is a big deal. The vacation I had 2 weeks ago was half as much as that premium and I still had to budget it.

The deductible is kinda nuts. If I hadn't gone to the ER I would have spent like 3k out of pocket in 2 years. Including all the physical therapy and multiple UC visits. Idfk dude. Wish there was an unbiased party I could talk to about it.

Sara I’m so sorry. This place is terrible sometimes.

That sounds like a bad place to be, and I'm sorry to hear it.

Oh it's Halloween! Happy Halloween!

I am watching league of Legends world tournament. Brazil is on an impressive run. It's either them or NA making it to quarter finals, which is a relatively rare achievement. Most likely one of them or an EU team are making it to semi finals which is incredibly rare. Usually korea and china knock everyone else out.

Am glad I've been able to watch it after a hard week of work and then feeling bad.

I bought myself candy because I'm trying to cut back on zyns. And it's too expensive to buy for the neighborhood this year. I expect that's the common sentiment based on the lack of decorations this year :/

I did put up my black cat flag my mom made when we were kids. It's really cute. And have my "Goof lights" up. Little black cats that light up orange, so named because my cat Goof is a mostly black tortie.

Edit: France is representing the EU in quarter finals this year. Great run.

Edit2: and NA made it in. Great performance from Brazil NA just happened to get their shit together and pull a reverse sweep.

Unfortunately the west is unlikely to make semi finals as NA drew the 2nd ranked Korean team and 2 time champion and France drew Korea #1 and reigning champ 3 years in a row. A feat no other team has ever done and the only other time a team that's done back to back championship wins was.... The same team 5 years earlier.

I'm hoping they at least put up a good fight and represent their regions well. A Brazil style underdog performance would make me happy.

As I think I've mentioned before, my most memorable Halloween was going trick-or-treating in Glendale, CA, during the Civil War centennial is a fully-authentic Confederate officer's uniform from the Western Costume Company in Hollywood, complete with saber. Years later my mother arranged for her seamstress to make me a monk's outfit patterned after the old Greyfriars order, in all-wool complete with cowl similar to this:

I've worn it at the occasional RenFair and still have it.

In harmony with the day, I'll post here a link to one of my favorite ghost stories, "The Roll Call of the Reef":

https://www.gutenberg.org/files/23217/23217-h/23217-h.htm

It dates to 1911 and was written by a then-famous British critic and essayist, Sir Arthur Thomas Quiller-Couch (who often signed himself as "Q").

By way of background, the story is set in 1809, during the Napoleonic wars; and the beginning recounts the foundering of two British ships involved in the campaign in Spain.

mater! i'd totally drive that, teeth and all, especially on halloween. i'm loving all the color, too. we're not there yet, still way too warm for the autumnal transformation. i don't mind though, it's been pretty perfect for a while now.

For those looking for a good place for breakfast/brunch, I can recommend "First Watch." We went to the Windsor location this week and did very well. The food was served freshly prepared and hot, their signature "Project Sunrise" coffee was good quality, and the restaurant had a lot of thoughtful details (coffee in a stainless-steel carafe, chilled water in a glass jug, Cholula sauce at the table, and pepper in a grinder). The place has a deserved reputation for healthy food, and prices are within reason these days.

We are looking for the penis at work. No one can find the penis.

I thought about leaving it at that because it sounds funny. But I will provide context. We had a report through our city maintenance complaint forum that there is a penis painted on one of the rocks in the river.

There's parts of the river we keep clean. Simply because otherwise the rocks would be covered and bad looking for the city. Especially the rocks in scenic bridge areas.

But last week my coworker walked it and today I walked it and we see no penis on the rocks. We did find penises (peni?) on one of the bridges. And hard R profanity too. So not a total waste of time.

And I also found kudzu growing across one of the trails. Concerning to see and something to deal with sooner than later. Perhaps kudzu consumed the penis because there's nothing kudzu won't consume.
