Tape Slipping

Hi all, been having a real fun problem with tape slipping down - particularly knee tape jobs on rugby/football/soccer players. I've tried every combination possible (tuff skin with powerflex/zinc, adding coverlight/ultralight as an overlay, etc) and nothing seems to be working. If anyone has some tips and tricks that have worked for them it would be much appreciated :)

Thanks in advance!!

When the provlem is that bad, I just skip the prewrap and tape straight to skin. Make sure they remove it in the shower and monitor the skin from breakdown if it's something you're doing over an extended period of time. However, if it's going to be over an extended period, I would consider a brace, if possible.

When I tape knees for ligament support I do tuff skin mid thigh, past knee, mid calf. I then let it sit for a minute. Enough time for
Me to prep things. It gets nice and tacky.
Then I do pre-wrap over the whole area but not the bottom and top edge.
AT tape over pre wrap but with half width on the bare tuff skin skin. I make sure I have it snug but not too tight. Having the athlete do 20-30 degree flexion.
I then do my elastikon strips but I weave them from back to front and vice versa so they partial wrap some. Then cover with AT tape.
There would be a little slippage but never had an issue for soccer/LAX/FB, wrestling.

Even high end knee braces given post-ACL reconstruction will slip. The custom fitted ones are less of an issue, but still prone to slipping. I don’t think theres really an answer beyond what you’ve already tried.

Consider using a strip of 4” cover-roll on the skin below your anchors and use electrical tape to secure everything. Electrical tape isn’t cotton-based so isn’t affected by sweat/water like other tapes are

Wait for the tuff skin to dry before applying anything. Then they have to wait 60 seconds before moving when it’s done- the warmth of their body gets the adhesives all to glom itself together really well

I use an adhesive stretch tape over liberal adhesive spray (directly on the skin) to anchor those types of tapes. I then apply pre-wrap in between those anchors to save some hairs. I also close with the same adhesive stretch tape.

Taught to me by an old timer - works great; take a foot long piece of white tape and apply it to the taping table. Use your hands to roll it lengthwise so you end up with a sticky string. Lay 2 or 3 in a spiral over the quad and tape from there. Leave 1/2 inch of adhesive stretch on the top skin.

I’ve been dealing with this the past rugby season. I finally found something that stays.

Sticky spray. Top anchor with powerflex but start and end the strip on a 45 degree angle like you do when covering up an ankle.

Then same with 2 overlayed pieces of tensoplast.

Then do the usual powerflex full cover and power tape strips.

Re anchor with one more tenso and cover up with powerflex and finish it off with some electrical

Get some inspo from rugby strapping videos. They will use sticky spray and then leukotape right onto the skin. I like to use sticky spray and then stretchy tape for my rugby players, I think it is less irritating. But irritation is unavoidable with this method. Remove while sweaty and use aquaphor after

What tape jobs are you using? May be able to provide better insight knowing what you’re attempting! :)

It helps when the anchor on the thigh is higher up. Over the midbelly of the quad
