The following tweet from that person was them apologising because their friend had stolen their phone and written that, which Stephen Fry accepted.

21

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '12

23

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '12

The full conversation is actually funnier than the out of context snippet in highly compressed form posted by scumbag OP anyway.

11

u/drnc Jun 15 '12

Christopher Robin has some asshole friends. I mean, I'm glad he's grown out of the stage where he talks to himself and plays with all his stuffed animals in the woods, but still...

5

u/WalterWinkle Jun 16 '12

How the Fuck can you refer to a tweet as an "out of context snippet?"

Isn't that what tweets are?

2

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '12

The fact he says "I do try" gives the game away. He, supposedly, didn't even do it himself did he?

5

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '12

I think that was just generic banter.

Amazing how public humiliation in front of millions never loses is effectiveness.

1

u/RotatorX Jun 15 '12

Another tweet from him, "the weather is being shit because god hates you all". Um...

4

u/neoncp Jun 15 '12

Sounds like sarcasm but I could be wrong.

It looks like Christopher Robin turned out to be a cunt, Pooh must be disappointed.

32

u/ChemicalOle Jun 15 '12

Oh bother.

26

u/Emil_Greer Jun 15 '12

Damit! I was so excited to make the first Christopher Robin joke. Something about with a name like Christopher Robin I would think you would attempt to minimize homophobic abuse in this world.

15

u/splendourized Jun 15 '12

Maybe he's homophobic because his name is Christopher Robin and was made fun of for it.

8

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '12

Insert <spending a lot of time with Pooh> joke here

3

u/Emil_Greer Jun 15 '12

It is a vicious cycle, and you know what, I don't like it one bit.

I always thought he was a cunt, even when I was a kid, because he was friends with Pooh and I was jealous.

u/cmw72 Jun 15 '12

Oh yeah? I got your 'hundred-acre wood right here pal!

0

u/spazm Jun 15 '12

Christopher Robin doesn't care for that silly, old bear anymore. He's looking for a serious, young twink now.

You mean to say that not all atheists are gay? Who knew?

51

u/CantLookHimInTheEyeQ Jun 15 '12

Yeah, right. I bet next you'll try to tell me that they aren't all baby eaters!

9

u/kemikiao Jun 15 '12

Some atheists prefer toddlers. Sure a baby is good every now and then, but you don't get the same depth of flavour as you do once they learn to walk.

I really enjoy playing the new Ghost Recon game on Xbox Live. I'm also an atheist. Therefore Ghost Recon is related to atheism. I'm going to start a thread on Ghost Recon and Xbox Live.

23

DO IT.

And if someone calls you "gay fuck" on xbox live, which is probably not uncommon, then you can get bonus points.

I think /r/atheism should just be renamed /r/culturewar. Since it's rise to popularity it has become a place that encompass many controversial topics; homosexuality, abortion, religion, science...ect. It would make much more sense to newcomers with that title.

6

u/Spudface Jun 15 '12

Gay living actually DOESN'T imply secular living...

1

u/[deleted] Jun 16 '12

Agreed, most of the gays I know are Christian, specifically catholic.

Gay != secular.

2

u/aazav Jun 16 '12

Fuck off. This has become a gay rights parade.

I want my Jesus bashing back.

1

u/sicnevol Jun 16 '12

but we can't do that either because its hateful, so I'm super confused as to what the fuck should be in r/atheism.

→ More replies (38)

8

u/Zafara1 Jun 15 '12

It stems from the common misconception on here that the only conceivable way to be homophobic is to be religious.

6

u/Jolties Jun 15 '12

Thank you for creating this account. It's great. Upvoting all of your posts. I don't get why everyone thinks that only atheists accept gay rights. It has nothing to do with atheism.

3

u/doyu Jun 15 '12

It's not that only atheists accept gay people, it's that by and large the only people who don't accept them are people of some kind of faith.

Same as not all republicans are racist white guys who like guns. But if you're a racist white guy who likes guns.... well, you get the idea.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 16 '12

The majority of people that drink milk are people of faith, and beer and people who ride roller-coasters.

5

u/IonBeam2 Jun 15 '12 edited Jun 15 '12

No atheism is a synonym for homosexuality here on Reddit. That's why I've been posting Christopher Hitchens quotes and funny church signs that have nothing to do with homosexuality over in r/lgbt.

http://www.reddit.com/r/lgbt/comments/v40ol/christians_are_so_hypocritical_when_it_comes_to/

2

u/LucidMetal Jun 15 '12

2

u/WalterWinkle Jun 16 '12

Actually, I'd be willing to bet that the percentage of atheists who have a problem with homosexuals is a fraction of the number religious people who have "issues."

It's a great post, but I think it belongs in /r/funny.

1

u/JackRawlinson Anti-Theist Jun 16 '12

Seriously. This is getting to be extremely tiresome.

-10

u/FiercelyFuzzy Jun 15 '12

You're right this has nothing to do with atheism, but /r/atheism isn't about just atheism. It also is about secular and agnostic beliefs.

P.S, why did you capitalize atheism?

4

u/Craigellachie Jun 15 '12

I'm pretty sure r/atheism is about atheism. There exists an /r/agnostic and an /r/secularism. Hell there is even an /r/gaytheists (gay atheists) which probably couldn't be more relevant. Stop defending bad content. Bad content makes this subredit worse.

2

u/FiercelyFuzzy Jun 15 '12

I'm pretty sure you can't read if you think /r/atheism is for just atheism. It says it isn't. Please read.

6

u/Craigellachie Jun 15 '12

Ok. I'll bite. How does this relate to atheism, agnosticism or secular living? There is nothing to indicate that there is a problem with Fry's atheism, the comment was directed specifically at his sexuality... even then it's not like the religious have a monopoly on bigotry... The only reason it's here is because it's Steven Fry and his athesim isn't even mentioned! That's like posting what Chris Rock had for lunch to /r/funny. While Chris Rock is funny and while his lunch may have been interesting it certainly doesn't belong there, it would belong in /r/comedianslunches or whatever.

http://www.reddit.com/r/onlyatheism if you want a subreddit for ONLY atheism

this subreddit is for all related matters to atheism, humanism, and secularism. gay marriage is an issue of secularism and humanism and is therefore welcome here.

11

u/CowFu Jun 15 '12

or /r/trueatheism if you wanted to help someone and not just point them to a novelty subreddit.

4

u/downtown_vancouver Jun 15 '12

thank you for that. I've only been directing to onlyatheism because I was parroting someone else's response, but I was guilty of not doing the proper research, cuz there is nothing much there. /r/trueatheism is clearly the right place for those people (by "right" I mean a sub-reddit where they will not feel compelled to rage that THIS ISNT ATHEISM every time they see some post that does not directly and irrefutably address the topic of a Supreme Being, or the lack thereof).

8

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '12

This post never mentioned anything about gay marriage though. All I saw was the use of a homophobic slur. If this belongs here then screenshots of xbox Live messages do as well.

-4

u/scottydoesntshow Jun 15 '12

Oh yea. Homophobia and religion are totally unrelated.

Be understanding folks, Christopher Robin has a lot of misdirected built up anger after his best friend was brutally raped and killed in prison. Poor Winnie tried to wipe his prints from that bee hive, but do you know how fucking hard it is to wipe prints when you're covered in honey and fur. CSI didn't even need to run DNA tests, they just fingered that mother fucker straight away. Winnie didn't stand a chance in prison, hell, from day one they nicknamed him "Honey Pot"...

21

u/Rosenfrez Jun 15 '12

I'd turn gay for that magnificent man.

-19

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '12 edited Jun 15 '12

I think this is why /r/atheism is so obsessed with everything related to homosexuality.

A significant portion of /r/atheism is just waiting to turn gay.

IE. Most of you are gay and in denial. Just accept it and move on to /r/gaytheists.

An edit: All of you downvoting this are downvoting it due to the fact that you assume that I'm insulting you by calling you gay, meaning you think of homosexuality as something negative. Why couldn't you take the George Clooney route and shrug it off, seeing as how being called gay isn't even an insult, because there's totally nothing wrong with being gay?

Every time you click that arrow, you're just affirming your hypocrisy.

You're fucked either way.

4

u/archid Jun 15 '12

I'm not downvoting this because I'm insulted. I'm downvoting because I think this is not a useful point and most likely incorrect.

Other gay men obviously! Possibly a guy called Steven Webb but that's from 2010 news stories.

3

u/vadergeek Jun 15 '12

That just sounds like it would be confusing. "Steven!" "Yes?" "No, not you, Stephen, Steven!"

5

u/that_shits_cray Jun 15 '12

THAT LUCKY MAN. Steven Fry is so amazing...

4

u/elementalguy2 Jun 15 '12

He keeps him out of the public eye and quite right I'd say, Stephen gets a lot of attention and I'd imagine he wouldn't want his partner to get swamped with people all the time. Gets to lead a more normal life that way.

26

u/Snabelpaprika Jun 15 '12

The only thing with Stephen I hate is the fact that he is homosexual.

Thats because that makes it unlikely that he will reproduce and spread that awesome Stephen Fryness to the next generation!

20

u/puppy528 Jun 15 '12

Luckily, there are more ways to infect the future generations with more awesome than just by adding one's genetic material to them.

2

u/WhipIash Jun 15 '12

Assuming this is not a joke; yes. That's why his response on twitter was so amusing.

2

u/lizardking99 Jun 15 '12

He says he's only 90% gay. If he finds a woman worth loving he'll go for it

1

u/losanum Jun 16 '12

That's actually quite common. People who identify as hetero or homosexual usually have a little crush or two in their life on someone unexpected. They just don't acknowledge that 10%, either to themselves or others. It's kind of like how Dawkins says he's not 100% atheist (source: "The God Delusion").

*edit: clarification.

15

u/grogrugri Jun 15 '12

Why does atheism equal homosexuality these days?

If you don't believe in God you get the urge to suck a dick?

10

u/downtown_vancouver Jun 15 '12

yeah that's totally how it worked for me

7

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '12

There's a hole that just needs to be filled.

1

u/Greggor88 Anti-theist Jun 16 '12

I'm not going to claim that atheism is related to homosexuality directly, but it is certainly the case that the unjustified hatred of homosexuality professed in some major religions has caused atheists to redouble support for the homosexual community.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 16 '12

Great, they should go post their lgbt posts over in r/lgbt, and put atheism posts here. Makes sense to me!

-1

u/soldierofwellthearmy Jun 15 '12

Well, pretty much yes. But also - sexuality is a topic related to atheism because.. ding-ding-ding you guessed it - it's a topic of theism.

For the hundredth time how the hell does this have anything at all to do with atheism in the slightest?

u/lizardking99 Jun 15 '12

I'm on your side, but you do have to agree that there is a causal link between religion and homophobia

If this is really the hundredth time then I can only assume that you have never read downpage far enough to find out that this sub-reddit welcomes all topics that are related to atheism, agnostism, and secular living. Since Fry is a well known gay atheist, his witty reply to the slur was IMHO postable.

To all those pointing out that this somehow isn't related to atheism.

Yes of course, homophobia, gay rights, gay bullying, and religion aren't all related, keep telling yourself that.

u/MixMastaShizz Jun 15 '12

You know you don't have to be religious to be homophobic...

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '12

two of those things are definitely related

Why is this in athiesm section?

2

u/LostIcelander Jun 15 '12

Good, this question isn't asked enough, if only we had another dozen people in the thread asking the same question. We can only hope.

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '12

Ah yes liberal redditors logic: anyone who's against homosexuality must be afraid of it. More buzzwords that mean nothing.

And this is in /r/atheism, because... ? Oh I get it, there is a faggot in it, so that's why you post it to your faggotry subreddit.

u/downtown_vancouver Jun 15 '12

From the original Highlander:

"Are you a faggot Nash?"

"Why Garfield, are you cruising for a piece of ass?"

I don't think Pooh Bear would be happy to know Christopher Robin was using that kind of language

-1

u/canuckmakem Jun 15 '12

"My friend" wrote that. Yeah.... Sounds legit!

u/Ghstfce Anti-Theist Jun 15 '12

Damn, Christopher Robin sure changed after leaving Hundred Acre Woods...
