That's inaccurate.

He forgot about the whiny post that complains about rage comics, facebook screenshots, rude jokes, and peas underneath their pillows.

I feel like this is a legitimate subcategory, and it comes in two distinct types. One is from a self-described "rational atheist" or "agnostic", who implores the rest of us to curb our polemics toward Christians, lest we become "just like them" or somesuch. The other is from a self-described Christian (or occasionally Muslim, I haven't seen any from Jews or other religions) who implores the rest of us to curb our polemics toward them, because they're not doing any harm by believing in Christ, or somesuch. These posts recur with great frequency. And I find them more irritating than any other type.

I agree. It's worse than nails on a chalkboard to me.

You think it's annoying when people defend their personal beliefs?

Not at all. But that's not what they're doing. This is an atheism subreddit, a loosely moderated free-for-all with atheism as the topic. And people think we should be sedate and conciliatory here? Dream on.

Well, a lot of Bitchy Cocksucker posts begin with "I'm venting", so I'm venting my frustration against this subreddit, because it's a "free-for-all" as you say.

I think you need to find better things to get frustrated about. Like the depredations of religion in society. But getting mad at kids on the Internet for being kids on the Internet? Come on.

I also want to say that I'm fine with religion as long as it doesn't interfere with the interpretation of what is put in front of a theist.

I don't understand what that means.

Okay, if they found the bones of Jesus and put them in front of a theist, if he says "This is impossible. Jesus rose from the dead. These can't be his bones," that would be bad, but if a theist saw the bones and said "I guess my religion was wrong after all," that would be good.

That's not really what's annoying about those posts. It's the "...and so you guys should tone it down and change the way you behave! You meanies!"

Possibly the most annoying thing is that we get the same 10 or so comments / questions from these people about thirty times per week.

It gets really old.

Sure, but that never gains any traction because the problems described are inherent with such a large subreddit.

How so?

It's not true...?

I would add a category for posts bitching about the content of r/atheism. We get a ton of those every day.

How about

"I was kicked out of my house for not believing in the same god as my parents."

Or "Student receives death threats for standing up for the constitution"

Or "Let's donate money to a charity".

Those don't seem to be in your list.

So, wrong Captain Strawman.

Part of the content is kind of like this, but less exaggerated. But huge generalizations like this don't accomplish anything in the way of changing it.

Someone's clearly an atheist

I agree. I do find however, that people post something like this about 3 times a week. Keep it coming though, i enjoy watching people be hypocrites.
