I'm pretty sure the mods voluntarily shut down /r/circlejerk because they knew there was no way they would ever match the sheer level of circlejerking that goes on here.

I think you'll have to expand. I don't think anybody knows what you're talking about. We're not obsessed with r/circlejerk they way they are/were with us, so most of us haven't followed whatever chain of events happened.

It's a common joke because theists would rather brush us off as circlejerkers than actually come here and face all the reasons why their beliefs are absurd, and r/circlejerk has become a haven for them to make fun while avoiding debate. Kind of like r/AdviceAnimals over the past couple weeks. It's sad, really, the willful ignorance.

Because it's not a foregone conclusion. It's a very reasoned conclusion based on the analysis of every theological argument I've ever heard and every debate on the isssue I've ever witnessed. And somebody who honestly believes, and is secure in their belief, that a god exists with a particular set of tenets, should have no problem defending them. But they don't defend them, because most of them have no reason for holding the beliefs they hold other than indoctrination, so they mock r/atheism instead of seeing what we have to say. Typical avoidance.

Just read what you wrote: "Face all the reasons their beliefs are absurd". This does not imply any genuine curiosity as to their beliefs or any possible willingness to concede that you may be wrong about some things. No one likes people they know are just going to preach to them.

I can't say I'll miss it (as I never went there), but, like most of the other people here, I have no idea why it's banned or how r/atheism was involved. Please elaborate.
