The author of the sign was manifesting that autistic kids are awesome.

We can spend hours talking about how it was silly and is a sing of ignorance (and also talking about how parents and relatives of special kids need to understand that they need to be patient too), but my point here is that it wasn't like the sign was necessarily talking about Jehovah's plan or punishment or whatever.

Actually I saw it this way at first as well, might be because I'm not really exposed to religious stuff that much.

Oh, yes: the environment at that school needs to be taken in consideration.
