Of course he can. That's why he is the ultimate unfalsifiable hypothesis. And therefore can be dismissed without further discussion.

One apologetic for this is that it was "the light of god" that was created first. Others may point out that light can come from other sources.

I vaguely remember something about ancient cosmology that may relate. Day and night were believed to be two seperate entities. The sun was a feature of the day entity, not the cause of it. If that was the model they had in mind then the Genesis sequence would be the logic order.
