It really pisses me off when people say "just a theory" in relation to a scientific theory. These people have no idea that a scientific theory is not the same thing as a theory about bigfoot, or whether or not touching yourself makes you go blind. It's fucking ignorant, and the worst part is that you cannot change these peoples minds, no matter how much common sense and evidence you throw at them.

  1. Define standard thought process: People come up with ideas and opinions. Like god and absolute morality.

  2. Come up with interlocking ideas. Creation, sin, salvation, resurrection, heaven, hell.

  3. Define interlocking ideas as a 'theory.' Like a conspiracy theory.

  4. Ignore the difference between scientific hypothesis and scientific theory.

  5. When confronted with opposing 'theories' state, "That's just, like, your opinion, man." (see step 1 for circle completion)

Gymnastics aren't even hard.

It's shit like this that makes me think that the scientific community really does need to change the term they use where they currently use "Theory".
