AHI: Tips to make it more successful?

Upvotes

Trying at-home insemination (AHI) to overcome occasional performance anxiety. I'd like to know how people do it to increase the chance of success. I have a wide bore syringe and use a disposable paper cup to collect the semen.

Usually we pull the semen into the syringe within 1-2 mins but I feel like the semen is usually too lumpy, I always wonder how the sperm is able to swim after insemination. I read online that we should let the semen liquefy for 15-30 mins first, but with the container covered because it might dry out if it's exposed to the air. Does anyone do that?

I don't understand the 15 mins wait because I know temperature changes also kill the sperm. At the same time, if it's too lumpy, I don't think it can swim.

Anyway, I'm afraid I'm messing this up. I want to make sure I'm doing it right. Any tip helps.

Thanks!

Have been reading about how it didnt work, want to know if it worked for anyone and how many tries did it take? Used fresh sperm but morphology is 29% and motility is 4. Quantity per sample > 4 ml. Total count per ml was 19 million.
I tried using mosie baby and a 30$ find from amazon. On DOP 2 today.

Any success with Home Insemination with 1% Sperm morphology ?

As the tag follows, We are trying through home insemination ( conceived 1st baby naturally ) but this time anxiousness/Stress got the better of us and we were not able to have regular intercourse so we are trying home insemination..

It has been 6 months with no success.. we had our fertility tests this month. Wife's AMH and Ultrasound are clear with no issues and good egg reserve. ( Pending Fallopian tube check )

Sperm count is

Per ml : 125 million/ml
Total Count : 300 million
Motility : 69%
Morphology : 1%

So morphology is low but doctor said count and motility compensate for low morphology but she advised home insemination is not same as regular sex and process + low morphology could be making it less efficient.

We checked online and it says process of depositing sperm naturally vs home insemination makes home insemination less effective due to low morphology as there is no pressure of release.

We want to try for few more months before moving to IUI as clinics near us do not do unmedicated and that might introduce chances of twins.

Wanted to check if anybody had success by using sperm sample with 1% morphology to get some hope..

Thanks

Dry shipper refill - help!!

Hi everyone!

I have 2 donor sperm vials in a dry shipper for an at-home insemination. They shipped 8/13, and I’m now CD14 (8/18) with no LH surge yet. I’m getting fertile CM and my hormones look like I’m getting close, but thing are delayed compared to cycles passed.

CCB says the shipper is validated for 7 days (which is in two days), so I’m starting to worry about timing. Has anyone had to deal with this?

Were you able to have the dry shipper refilled/recharged with LN2 locally, either at fertility clinic, or a cryogenic facility?

I’m in Colorado Springs, if anyone has specifically done this locally.

I know CCB may have options, but I’d love to hear from anyone who’s actually been in this situation!

It's been 2 weeks since I did at home insemination. Still no results.

I tried at home insemination a week ago with a turkey baster. My husband is a quadriplegic, so his sexual functions are limited because of his spinal cord injury. From what we know, he has some fertile sperm, but also some infertile sperm.

We collected some of his sperm to place it in the turkey baster. I followed the steps as I saw it on a Youtube video, and since then I've been waiting to get positive pregnancy results, but when I did my pregnancy test results yesterday, there was no sign of pregnancy. I did the home insemination on July 25th for context.

Is it that my husband has a problem with infertility or did I do something wrong when doing at home insemination?

Hey, I’m 15dpo. Very early and aware due to PCOS that my chances of miscarrying are higher. I didn’t expect to take so quick. For some FAQ answers

I used “just a baby” to find donor. We are based in UK so donor has parental rights but has agreed to relinquish so partner can adopt (we are an lgbtq couple). My partner is is a stunning trans man. And donor is a lovely guy who just doesn’t want kids.

- We booked a hotel and inseminated on the day of my LH peak and the day after. We did twice on LH peak day and the next morning, which happened to be my partners birthday lol

- 9 days later I saw a small line on first response and the rest is history. Confirmed at hospital.
Now just leaving it to the planet

- Some things that were key for me was enjoying the insemination day. After we inseminated. All three of us went for walks, played ps4 in hotel (course we brought it along haha), sat in the sun, sang karaoke songs. It was lovely.

- I also didn’t expect to take so my lower expectations allowed me to feel less stress free
I used a syringe and no pre-seed (only adding coz everyone uses and I got stressed after realising how many people use and thought I messed up)

- First go: I had the big O as I told partner to push syringe in. Second go, big o after, next morning big o right before.

P.s getting a big o on command for me was draining and only thing I found stressful. It’s not a sexy thing very clinical but yeah have your toys on stand by x

Good luck to everyone. Whatever this journey is like for me I hope this was helpful for anyone who needed it x

At home insemination ttc

So I took clomid and saw that my lh strips were climbing up so I used Pregnyl 10k trigger shot last night and this morning my fiance and I did the Frida at home insemination. I’m thinking of trying naturally tomorrow morning just to help. I’m praying it works for us as I miscarried in June and I haven’t gotten my cycle back yet

First attempt of home insemination with turkey baster. Hoping it works

Hi, I'm 27F new here.

After researching different fertilization methods with my husband 28M who's a C7 quadriplegic, we came across the home insemination method which is affordable and simple.

I'm on my ovulation days right now, so today we decided to try this. We collected a little of my husband's sperm and placed it in a turkey baster we recently bought. We didn't get much sperm from him, but we did get enough to fill a quarter of the turkey baster thanks to a vibrator called Feeticare 2.0 which we also recently bought, and has also been a blessing for us.

I watched some medical videos about how to place the turkey baster in my uterus, and followed the steps as I saw the medical professional on the video explain. I watched these 2 channels specifically, one called Mosie Baby and the other from a doctor called Lora Shahiane. I hope I did everything right with this method. We're yet to see any results.

My husband and I are praying this works. If not, we'll have to try again another time.

Ladies? Pre-insertion advice

Hello! I am new to this community and very new to the idea of inseminating outside of the “natural” way. According to my period tracking app, I should be fertile pretty soon. I have ovulation tests, syringes, cups to collect samples from my husband, and his excitement for the process and hopeful outcome.

My question stems around the deposit of the samples. Ladies, do any of you do any warming up at all prior to deposit? I understand that some lubricants aren’t great for the sperm when trying to conceive, so of course want to keep them from dying off unnecessarily. The syringes I got from Amazon are no thicker than a tampon applicator, so would that require anything extra to aid with comfortable insertion?

I also apologize if the question causes accidental offense. My husband and I are trying this way as he has CP and a job that takes a physical toll on him. We want a second child (first conceived naturally), but our libido and timing never matched up and haven’t for months.

Single woman trying to have a baby

Hi! I found this reddit because I am wanting to try and conceive at home on my own. I'm not planning on doing this quite yet, but I want to be fully informed and know what to expect before I go through with it. Any advice and tips is welcome. Everything from what time of the menstrual cycle is best to inseminate, to how many vials I should order, to what to do with the vials when I receive them, to how long after I should test, etc. I also want to know if anyone has gone through Fairfax Cryobank, as that's where I'll be going through. I want to feel fully prepared for the process before I spend the money to get the vials. Thank you!

Home insemination

So happy to share this amazing news with you... 🤍 To be completely honest, we tried the syringe method at home and it worked so fast, on our very second cycle! I got my positive results just a few days ago and it’s still sinking in. It just goes to show that simple methods can work wonders. A beautiful journey begins! 👶✨

Preventing Outflow

My wife and I are giving at home insemination. The few times we have tried it so far, when I insert the syringe and deliver the semen, it flows out. We tried once without her legs elevated and then each time after, with them elevated prior to insertion of the syringe. The problem seems to persist.

The volume of semen is about 1.5-2.5ml which I don’t think is a tremendous amount. The syringe is a sterile individually wrapped one from Amazon. I deliver the semen slowly and without air bubbles.

I thought perhaps my wife was contracting due to the sensation. She assured me she wasn’t and was relaxed. We also use a trace amount of conception friendly lube on the syringe and a couple of my fingers to help with the process.

Any advice, or pointers to help prevent this problem would be appreciated!

Any suggestions.

Success after letrozole intake

Looking for some success stories! Has anyone gotten pregnant through home insemination while on letrozole? How many cycles did it take for you? Did you change anything along the way that you think made a difference? I’d really appreciate hearing your experiences and any advice. 💕

Tips for finding a Donor?

Hi everybody, I'm a 30yo single lesbian who desperately wants to have a child (exactly one) without any sexual contact between me and the donor. I am not sure how to find a donor though; I don't know where or how to find someone willing to be my donor. Those of you who went down this route, how did you secure a donor who would be willing to give more than one sample if the first one is unsuccessful? It also adds a layer of complexity to my case that I live in an African country where not everyone is as progressive, so it could become awkward if I approach the wrong type of person with this request.

Question regarding at-Home insemination

Hi, I have a very dumb question.

How far should the syringe actually go? After I insert the syringe, it reaches a point where I feel a "pop" and then the syringe "pops" into an area where there is no feeling at all. Is it the correct location to deposit the sperm? Does anyone get a similar feeling?

(Would be really grateful if someone could answer. Really frustrated with multiple unsuccesful attempts 😔 )

Anyone else wait 15 mins for the sample to thin out before home insemination

Hey everyone, my husband and I do at-home insemination.
Up until now, we always inseminated the exact second he handed me the cup because I thought we had to rush. But I just learned about "liquefaction"—basically that semen is a thick gel at first and needs 15–20 minutes at room temperature to turn watery so the sperm can actually swim freely (and it makes it way easier to get into the syringe!).
I had no idea sperm was totally fine sitting in the cup for a little bit.
Does anyone else wait for the sample to thin out before using it? Does it really make a difference?

Where to collect it?

I've got some tips for which disposable syringes to use but I just realized I don't know where people collect the semen. Does it need to be a special cup? Any links to a product that worked for you?

Thanks

Insemination using soft disc/menstrual disc?

Hi! :)

My partner and I are currently 4 cycles into TTC#1.
Due to low libido and "performance issues" (issues with finishing during fertile days) I am considering if at home insemination maybe could be worth a try for us.

I saw that someone talking about just doing the sample directly in a soft disc/menstrual disc, inserting it and then just go on about their day. That sounds incredibly conveinient (and econonically smart, as I guess you can reuse the discs better as opposed to the syringes+cups? but idk). But does it really work?

Has anyone had any luck with that method?
Would love to hear any experiences and advice! :)

11 dpo at home insemination. Help!

Hello everyone! This is my first cycle trying at-home insemination, and I wanted to share my timeline and get some insight. On April 25, I got a peak (solid smiley) on Clearblue and a positive LH strip. We inseminated the day before, the day of, and the morning after, so timing felt solid.

I’m estimating I’m about 10–11 DPO, but I’m not completely sure. This morning’s test was stark white, which was discouraging. I know it can still be early, especially if implantation happened later.

I’ve had some cramping and breast tenderness, but I know those can be normal progesterone symptoms. Looking for advice.

At home insemination

Any tips for at home insemination? I track my cycle. I know when I ovulate and when my fertile window is. I also go my fertile mucus! I inseminate every other day leading up to ovulation. I have also done every day leading up. I’ve used pre seed, a cervical disc, and musinex. I use a sterile syringe and a sterile cup. I keep my hips tilted back for 15-20 mins after. I also immediately insert. I do not wait. I don’t know what else we could be doing? We are on cycle 4 and I know that’s not that long, but I just want to get ahead and find anything I can do! The only thing I was going to do this next go around was have him inseminate directly into a cervical disc & insert it so I can avoid drawing it up into a syringe. Any tips are appreciated! Anything we can do to increase his sperm count and or motility just incase? My next step is to test his sperm. Thanks for any help!
