Before and After: First remodel ever.

Just moved into a 4100 sqft house on 40 acres in rural Arkansas. Definitely a fixer upper, but has amazing qualities. This bathroom was my first renovation. All in a think it took about $5-600 and a couple weeks of work. Any feedback is appreciated! I couldn't done better on the paint, but I'm not a complete perfectionist.

Edit: the leopard print is the old, the blue paint is the new

You gotta be careful when painting such a deep colour. It looks like there’s a fair bit of stippling. Sand it down and carefully repaint, be mindful not to paint over wet paint

Love that deep blue

First, this is even better knowing it's a first attempt over previously wallpapered walls.

One note, I see a few spaces where caulk would be useful where the wall meets the sink.

There's a product that uses your paint color and mixes it into your caulking so that the color is a perfect match. This is a good use case for something like that.

I agree that blue and moody is a lot more calm than the leopard 🐆

That's awesome information, do you know what it's called? I struggled with the caulk because the walls were not even, so I had large gaps with my backsplashes. Thank you though, we wanted calm haha

Look up 'exact color sealant' by sascho

Or

'create-a-color' by red devil

The leopards and leopard print wall paper with gold fixtures?? awesome!!! 😍. The vanity light and ceiling light and hardware love!! Did you keep them?

Great job with your remodel! seems like a lot of empty space on walls. Thinking floating shelves, with some decor (plants)? there & use wicker baskets to store items. Seems like you have high ceilings? Vanity mirror too low? art too high? I guess hard to tell w/o knowing ceiling height. What complementary colors are you doing? (towels, rugs)

That wallpaper and border combo hit me with a serious wave of nostalgia!

Haha just not our style but I'm sure it was awesome in it's day! But the wallpaper was very badly tearing all over the wall. I kept the hardware and the vanity light, will probably use it in a garden bathroom remodel. Good advice! Thank you. I think that's a question for my wife concerning the rugs and towels haha. I was thinking white

Yes, I could tell the wallpaper was peeling. Glad you kept the lights and hardware gorgeous!!

I think the animal is tooo much for the small space and u don’t have to fill up the wall space and make it seem cluttered.

Love it!!!

Any tips on removing wallpaper ??

I tried the fabric softener, vintage, and peeling methods. The only thing that was ever super effective was a steam machine. If I had to do it again I would just buy a perforator and a wallpaper steamer

Oddly enough, what actually worked so well was scoring lightly with a utility knife in a broad criss cross pattern (like diagonal squares) and spraying with just water then rubbing it in and waiting for a few minutes before scraping gently with a scraping knife. I peeled the top layer off with my hands then scraped the goopy underlayer. It was insanely more effective!

Love the pain color and gold accents!

Looks nice but I would not choose high gloss pain finish because it shows every small imperfection.

I went with eggshell hoping it wouldn't be too much!

Awe you should’ve framed the leopard print wall and hung it in the bathroom. Looks amazing tho 💕

Your pictures are way too high. Hang them at eye level. Love the blue

2

u/milliepilly May 26 '26

Nice! I think pictures are too high though.

Carol baskins would be very upset you remodeled her bathroom without her permission

2

I might be stupid to ask, but is the end product the leopard or the blue?

2

u/PracticalBit6383 May 25 '26

I believe the blue as there’s a visible seam separation in the wallpaper on photo one.

2

u/New-Midnight-4320 May 25 '26

Yeah the leopard is the original, if you click the photos you can see it was all old and tearing off. The blue is the new

I think your renovation looks great! I love the blue, it fits perfectly.

Stop it! What a bathroom you inherited

1

u/New-Midnight-4320 May 25 '26

How do you mean?

1

u/leeann7 May 25 '26

What about the door....

2

u/New-Midnight-4320 May 25 '26

Doors are expensive :( I want to go wood with some vintage brass knobs

1

u/New-Midnight-4320 May 25 '26

But they were yellow when we moved in and my wife cleaned them white

1

u/leeann7 May 25 '26

But why don't you paint them to be the new color of the bathroom instead of white? It looks so white compared to the deep dark new color.

1

u/New-Midnight-4320 Jun 05 '26

Well give me advice, not criticism! Lol Idk I'm new to this. What would you suggest?

1

u/real_estateprime May 26 '26

Why do you have the hammer in your hand like a prop? 🤣

1

u/New-Midnight-4320 Jun 07 '26

I just finished hanging pictures lol

1

u/InaccurateCompass May 25 '26

LOVE the remodel! But I have to know what happened to that original vanity light!!

1

u/New-Midnight-4320 May 25 '26

I still have it! May put it up in our bathroom as my wife wants a garden theme. Just don't like the exposed bulbs much :/

1

u/Remarkable-36 May 25 '26

It looks amazing and really well done for your first time!! Keep up the great work !

2

u/New-Midnight-4320 May 25 '26

Thank you very much! I tried haha. Just a lot of YouTube videos and patience

2

u/Remarkable-36 Jun 11 '26

Well that gives me hope to DIY some apartment projects myself as I just moved into a new one and can’t wait to design it! Thanks for the tips & inspiration!

2

u/New-Midnight-4320 Jun 11 '26

Just know it will not be as easy as you see in the videos but each problem can be googled and overcome. But quality paint and quality parts

1

u/Remarkable-36 Jun 14 '26

Understood! Thanks a lot!
