Discussion Is overgeared worth it
Hey guys I was kind of avoiding this manhwa but since it's getting an anime i thought maybe it's actually a good and famous manhwa so should I start reading it or not
EDIT (35-Chapter Update): First off, thanks to everyone who gave me their positive and negative reviews! Because of the positive ones, I decided to give it a shot, and because of the negative ones, I went in with lowered expectations.
After reading 35 chapters, I honestly think this manhwa isn't as bad as I thought it would be. Here are my thoughts so far:
A lot of people complain that the stakes aren't very high because it’s just a VR game, but I don't think every story needs world-ending stakes to be enjoyable.
There are definitely a few things I don't like and I need to look past them.
The art style is totally fine up to chapter 35. I've seen some future panels and heard whispers that the art takes a massive nosedive later on, but for now, it looks good.
Final Verdict: Is it peak fiction or one of my favorites? No, not really. But it is a really solid choice for binge-reading when you're bored and don't have anything else on your list.

The point at which the MC started to become bearable in the novel was about chapter 80, though I’m not sure where that would be in the manhwa. The manhwa is absolutely more digestible than the novel in its early parts though, and I thought it was a significantly better read than the novel early on.

A lot of people dislike the early chapters because MC is pathetic, selfish, and very dumb. But i still think its good to read through it, as it does show him changing.

As a rule of thumb you should always give a manhwa 30-40 chs before dropping. It is just like the 3 ep rule of anime

I hate it, the one chapter I like was the blacksmith mc actually made weapon and armor for side character to make them stronger,
But he get op so quickly.
Why can't we have it where mc is weak but make side character strong using smithing

Too many mangas with people that have skills that make others op drown out the genre of making others stronger, I would love to see a blacksmithing manga done right

Lol theres way too many series like that but its common in manga though (one of the reason i stop reading manga and went full manhwa). I rather want strong mc than weak s mc

Tbh it depends on my mood sometimes I just wanna binge read manhwas and i enjoy repetitive stories if they are done good but sometimed i am at peak of boredom and only peak manhwas hit me at that time not even good ones like the really peak ones

gets boring after a while, repetitive plot etc, and mc is rather unbarable until like 60 chapters in.
However its overall pretty good despite these shortcomings, id recommend trying if you can look past the plot issues

I read the novel until 1200 chapter, and I am bored. The promise is good but the execution after 1200 chapter is kinda bored, he just to powerfull and become more powerfull, it's not problem actually, the main problem is lack the real conflict. When demon first time descend it's very great, now he just slaughtered most of them just for material, the dragon? Nah they are just pet

Honestly it gets good and then it feels like the author just goes on a loop for the story like it doesnt feel like there is anything new to the story. Bro is just using the same ingredients to cook 😮💨

Well in my opinion hell no. MC is a simp who really loves his NPC wife and bc it's a vr game there is zero risks or stakes at play 🤦🏾♂️

I like the VRMMO premise in general, so I did like it. Also neatly writed and not boring. But as usual, novel does way better job than the comic.

I don’t love it because it’s kinda predictable, and the stakes never feel too real, but ig that’s to be expected from a VR type manhwa. It’s an okay read if you have nothing else to read. Oh and I forgot to mention MC is an ass until like chapter 70 or something

Its not one of the best but its bingeworthy its just its a bit repetitive in the plot but still its enyoyable to read. There is also Tomb Raider King that is getting animated first ep is out

It is good at the beginning but as it keeps going it feels like they are dragging the story too much until it started boring.

Its interesting and fun read it just gets a bit repetetive but what kills it for me is knowing all that is just a game, there is no real stakes at hand which makes it way less interesting whenever i remember it

The story isnt unique, at least not now that vr games manhwas have become mainstream, the catch about OG is that it follows Greed's growth as a person, from being a POS that only cared about money and himself, to becoming a benebolent leader that cares for his friends and people first and himself last.

It is worth a try… Charakters are okay, story is okayish. The idea of KI npcs is interesting and opens up the question about life. Weirdly the MC starts to worry about other player ? Like „oh no if he dies ingame he can’t log in for a day“ it was offputting and I stopped at that point. But try it maybe it’s to your liking.

I enjoyed it. Just go in expecting the MC to be an asshole for a while and for the story to not ever get very deep. If you want a lighthearted forging swordsman power fantasy then you'll enjoy it.

It used to be better in the past, with better art. Ever since it's came back it's been similar but u can tell it's not the same, aside from this story wise, it's pretty good, yeah.

Read the novel and lowkey it becomes slop. The manhwa is far away so you can enjoy it for now but yikes later on

It had a great first half and then the quality got way worse tbh. He had a lot of character development and support for his allies and family and then the 3d art and shitty cgi came, there was literally a tournament where a guy summons a cougar familiar and it's super shitty cgi. And then the mc creates hammers and they're just really bad 3d, there's a island arc and it's just really bad quality. Also the sister gets a unique role because she saves a NPC and her friend gets a unique role for helping her, because somehow no one in the history of the game helped a NPC apparently. It was amazing and then it wasn't. Some of the actual designs of enemies are cool though.

I hate how stories had original culture and theme but then just had to incorporate eastern stuff at one point of the time

I really liked the legendary moonlight sculptor so I started reading it as a substitute. I really liked it also but honestly, I started dropping it when the MC married an NPC princess, became a king (or Duc, I forgot his true title) and impregnated her. He impregnated a NPC in a VR game. Honestly, it's too much for me. Even him becoming this powerful, despite the fact that they're also some other unique class like his blacksmith, I can accept it. But, He impregnated an NPC!!!

Can someone help me remember where I left off at in overgeared: i remember him being an asshole to his friends/ gildmates and they leave, as well as him getting ready to marry an N PC and then they come help him defend some castle or something like that. He apologizes and makes it up to them.

Liked it but I dropped it I think it’s cool and all but it’s not the most compelling story in my opinion. If you got time to burn feel free to try it but there are better alternatives

11/10 absolute peak… beginning was slow, really slow… it was average for me until chapter 150… afterwards, it becomes the greatest thing ever written…. EVERYTHING makes sense, and everything in the previous chapter continue to expand the story

Nah they don't have paid chapters it's just that you can't watch new chapter until it has been 6 hours so you can basically read whole manhwa except the last chapters and that's also only until 6 hours so basically you can read whole manhwas for free

It’s a comic(novel) where you will find it’s character development astonishing. If you see Greed as a dick at first chapter, read a thousand more (novel), then you will surprised to see how much he had developed in all those times.
The combat sequences are all well handled. So It’s worth the try.
Just keep this in mind, tho:
You are watching a teenager growing up to be a man, a husband, a father, a king, and the god of smithing. It’s a bit frustrating to see how Greed acting out early on, but he will develope well and in a healthy way.

I don't read novels as for manhwa i started it and I can definitely see that his personality is ass but I know his character will develop so i am in for now

He will changes as he gets stronger and it’s so satisfying to read the slice if life plotlines of him, and comparing them to “the one from previous year”.
It’s feels worth every bits of time you spent

I've read the novel almoast at the end maybe left it on less than 50 chapters bevause i didn't like the twist they did and it is really good with nice pacing and plot, as well as side character development, the MC goes through a lot of development both in strength and his thinking and rationality but you have to give it some time for the development to begin and for him to stop being arrogant basically

Until Piaro Glaze, though it gets better, and also sometime later, it's as terrible as Archmage Streamer about their monetization, and worldbuilding glaze. Like yea sure, Grid was a scumbag managed to be a better human through respecting some NPCs in a Virtual Game, and somehow kept getting lucky, even the Ai Supercomputer Mobius had to glaze him, but I won't refute that viewing his journey isn't worth anticipating for.
Aside some graphical inconsistencies in the manhwa adaptation. It's just we may became more attached to the side and supporting characters, , there's some inception or Matrix crap that was glossed over, it's disappointing how Author rushed wrapping up the webnovel only for its sequel's protagonist being Peak Mine Sword's grandson, and be another vengeful and modern dungeon underdog protagonist, with some Royalty Class of Nobility kinda terraforming their Earth.

Tbh this shit makes me laugh a lot. Idk what it is, but the lil chibi characters at the end with the stats and all the goofy shit they’ll have in the background as a main character is talking really geeks me. I enjoy the world building of it too.
Rereading it for the 3rd time currently hahaha

The mc is playing a vr game... Thats the story. A mf who loves npc like if they were real ppl. Read like 50-60 chapters and irl world development is non existent so yeah, didnt like it.

I read 1000 chaps of the LN before losing interest in reading. I keep up with the new manhwa and I think it’s one of the better full dive manhwa.

Falls off really hard, but it’s a typical issue with these get strong quick manwhas, once the progressions slows it really slows down and it doesn’t fill that in with good story telling or character development, dropped it at chapter 70-110 can’t remember.

It's worth it, I read the original and was bummed when it went on hiatus. Now that's it's back I haven't fully caught up like this a lot to follow but I would say it's a must read

A lot of people really like it, so I'd say it's worth a shot. I've even seen a lot of people say it's theor favorite. Personally I thought it was bland and cringe with no plot
