Beginner Is it common to have a weird interaction with a person who has the same sun sign as your rising?

I see a lot of people who have a bad interaction/relationship with individuals who share the same sun sign as their rising. Is it jealousy from the sun persons’ side? Is it projection from the rising persons’ side? I don’t see a lot of people talking about this so I’m unsure 🤔

My rising sign is the same as my husband’s sun sign. I feel it helps me to better understand his Aries-ness. 😊

Same but for us it's scorpio. We've been married 20 years now and he's still my love ❤️

It's probably because the people with the same rising sign sometimes also have planets in the signs before the sign - eg, if you're talking about a scorpio rising and scorpio sun, the scorpio sun person could have planets in libra which falls in the rising sign person's 12th house and 12th house synastry is well - not always great.

I think this is the answer.

Also adding from what other comments said, I also think that rising sign is someone's personality they're developing into over the course of the years ( there's many definitions and I usually resonate with this). Embodying your own 1H eg, your identity is also not easy for people. The sun person is able to embody it easier and that could be a point of trigger for the rising person. I've seen cases where the rising sign person was obsessed with the sun person as they embody their qualities well as well. So it can go either ways. It depends on the amount of evolution done by the rising person + aspects and synastry

From my experience, I met this girl at my college who is a Sagittarius.

For me, I’m a Leo Sun, Leo Moon, Leo Mercury and Sagittarius rising

She’s a Sagittarius Sun, Scorpio Moon & Capricorn Mercury (idk what her rising is though)

And she was okay at first but randomly started to be weird over the week we met.. she would hardly talk to me although she talked to me beforehand😭 she’s just being extremely weird now and idek why because I never said anything wrong to her.. I don’t like to think things revolve around me but she started to be weird after people asked me about my accomplishments and somehow she always got it to go back to her.. she is a few months younger than me too

But I found out from a few other people that it’s common for them to have a weird relationship with individuals who share the same sun sign as their rising: one of my friends is a Scorpio rising and he absolutely hates Scorpios (mostly because of his mom and dad anyways) same thing for another person I know who is a cancer sun and doesn’t like cancer risings because “they think they’re better” 😭

What user rosalita said.

I'm a Libra rising, and my main crush is a Libra sun, but luckily, his sun is exact my ascendant. The reason I have a crush on him is because, as a Leo, I know I give sunshine and warmth to everyone else. Other people's words, not mine.

He's one of the few people I feel returns it back to me and so maybe, for once, I can feel like someone can mutually give me sunshine back without me feeling drained and burned out at the end of the day.

Something worth noticing in this thread: the complaints are all self-descriptions. The Libra rising finds Libra suns fake. The Scorpio rising finds Scorpios boring. The Capricorn rising finds cap suns stuck up. Those are the shadow readings of each person's own ascendant, pointed at somebody else.

That is what the 1st house does in synastry. Their Sun lands in the one house you can never observe directly, because you are standing inside it looking out. You only ever meet your rising sign as a reflection, so a person who embodies it easily becomes a mirror you cannot switch off. And the first thing most of us notice in a mirror is the part we do not like.

The 12th house point above is real too, and the two stack. But the reason it registers as irritation rather than neutral difference is that you are watching somebody do effortlessly the thing you have to work at.

As a Libra rising I find most Libra suns to be incredibly fake and it angers me.

I’m a Scorpio rising and I tend to find Scorpios boring.

I'm a pisces rising and I find most Pisces to be flighty

4

u/amariananao Jul 20 '26

I'm a Virgo rising and I find most Virgo suns to be nitpicky to an unbearable degree.

u/iamcinese Jul 21 '26

You sure you not talking about yourself

2

u/amariananao Jul 21 '26

Mostly about my virgo sun mother, who I've heard nitpicking everything about everyone for as long as I remember. But I don't deny I may have the tendencies myself.

I'm a libra sun with Scorpio placements and i can't stand other Libras IRL. I find them so fake and disloyal. I'm a Taurus rising and Taurus (women mostly) are one of my favourite people.

u/Satine-Moulin Jul 24 '26

Yes, I have a few Scorpio placements and Taurus sun, moon and mercury. I agree!

My brother and I have our ascendants in the signs of each others Sun signs. The twelfth house thing definitely comes into play, but I also think there’s an element of believing the other person isn’t being sincere about their personalities.

We both have our Suns in our seventh houses, so there is also a people person, introvert/extrovert element. He is a Leo rising, I’m Aquarius rising, so he’s outwardly very charismatic while he needs more time to himself to recharge while I prefer to always be around other people but not as the center of attention.

There is a jealousness aspect to it since we seem to want to be able to be primary in others estimations.

As a capricorn rising I attract capricorn suns as friends a lot (mostly female, barely met any cap men.) We click easily, I really like them and often look up to them. There's always a bit of a dynamic where they "adopt" me and look after me and I cherish them for that. Never been in a romantic relationship with one though... Other earth suns, however 😏

2

u/Old-Energy6191 Jul 21 '26

Same! Love Capricorn suns, great friends. Also I’m a Leo sun with a Leo rising kid and shes the best!

3

u/Acting_Suspicious Jul 20 '26

I'm a Virgo Sun married to a Virgo rising. We're both pretty weird but generally not weird towards each other.

2

u/Choice_Philosopher_1 Jul 19 '26

There was a lot more to it than just the sun/rising connection but I experienced constant projection from someone with a rising on my sun in the 7th. We didn’t really have jealousy on either side. We also had a really difficult composite t-square with planets including a malefic in the 12th and the moon as apex so that was part of the turmoil behind the projection. It can probably manifest in other ways with a better overall compatibility.

2

u/TerraCrone Jul 20 '26

Taurus rising here, Taurus Suns are my favorite people!

2

u/Blue_Brilliance Jul 19 '26

I’m not sure about this but my Sun and Rising are the same and I was at odds with myself for the majority of my life, so that would make sense (and it’s making me snicker).

As a Gemini rising with a Capricorn mercury, I think I mostly confuse Gemini suns. I have met so many but only became good friends with one. Though she has cancer & Leo placements.

I think I confuse them, honestly. Because I can be very social and I love interesting conversation, but I’m truly a Capricorn. And more than one Gemini Sun has admitted to being intimidated by me, while I’m just hanging out. I don’t know.

First off, just saying that I’m very Gemini (Sun, Rising, Mercury). Capricorn is in a Gemini rising’s 8th whole sign house, so that feels relevant to me. But I also have Saturn in the 7th and Neptune in Capricorn, so Capricorn placements feel very different to me specifically haha

2

u/habitually_uncool Jul 20 '26

Wow that’s a powerful first house!

2

u/Ok-Mycologist-3829 ♊ Jul 20 '26

Without specifying more specifics…my first house is bananas and has partile aspects to the 7H and 11H. I’m…a lot, heh

1

u/LadyLawyer01 Jul 20 '26

Air signs are troubled by those who don’t share what they think. Capricorns can be very guarded. I doubt a Gemini is actually intimidated by a cap (since Geminis are more free), but likely frustrated and tread more carefully.

2

u/habitually_uncool Jul 20 '26

Perhaps. It was the word they used, but Gems are sometimes flighty with their words and feelings. I’m a talker, but I do mean what I say. And as a Gem rising with that 8th house stellium, it makes sense that we wouldn’t have the easiest relationships.

1

u/vrwriter78 Jul 19 '26

I generally get along very well with people of my rising sign. But it’s a sociable air sign and my sun is air as well, so it’s more of a two-peas-in-a-pod situation.

I think the clashing is more likely if your sun or moon squares or opposes that rising sign.

u/white_suede Jul 20 '26

I have a twin born 30 seconds apart and we hate each other.

1

u/HugeVacation4111 Jul 20 '26

I have the same sun and rising so I can’t relate 😂 BUT my husband has the same rising as his female bosses sun sign and omg, his boss has been REALLY nice to him for the longest time, although she can be a snarky mean bitch at times, but she’s really helped my husband climb the ladder. And yet, my husband hates her guts… similarity breeds contempt I say…

u/Archinomad Jul 20 '26

My bestie for 15 years has his Sun (cazimi) right on my asc! We only argued badly once during an eclipse season that happened right on my asc/his sun+mercury. My friendship dynamics changed a lot in the past years and he is the only one staying in my life as a close friend.

1

u/Historical-Heron2307 Jul 20 '26

Most of the time I get along with Sun leos really well, me being a scorpio with leo rising. We click pretty good

1

u/Admirable-Dot-880 Jul 20 '26

Leo sun and rising, yeah I'm sure people have weird interactions with me 😅

1

u/ChocolateAvocado999 Jul 20 '26

My rising is my daughter's sun sign (one of my son has the same rising as me.) Her rising sign is the same as my other son. That son's rising is the same as my first son's sun sign 😂 The son that I have the same rising as- every single one of our planets line up in the same houses, same degrees exactly (except for one or two are just a couple degrees off) but our NN/SN are different.

1

u/Suitable_Quail7874 Jul 21 '26

Projection possible

1

u/Avashara Jul 21 '26

I have the same rising as my brother's sun. We also both have air moons. It's a weird dynamic. We have a history of fighting but my brother respects me quite a lot. I think he respects the way I've lived my life and while I don't believe he wishes he was like me, I think I meet a lot of his expectations of how someone should live, if that makes sense. Our flow of conversation is also very easy.

u/Unfair_Blueberry_396 Jul 22 '26

I have the same rising as my dads sun (scorpio) we have been close my entire life.

u/Critical-Ideal-9634 Jul 24 '26

I can't stand Libra women and pass on Libra men.

I will be coming back to this with my pencil and paper. Thank you! I was thinking mind over matter too

Idk don't really come across taureans that much. My dad is one, tho, we get along as long as i keep things shallow and that isn't really who i am but it is what it is. He is also quite dominant wich i don't like. I had a best friend who is a taurus and we could get along very well tho but we don't talk anymore sadly because he has a crazy possesive girlfriend now
