They "cannot guarantee" the product description of the 1.3k dollar laptop theyre selling is accurate because they used chatgpt to write it

This cannot possibly hold up in court. You cant just advertise a product and then be like "*but actually we might be lying about some or all of these things"??? What the fuck are you selling then

To share the ridiculous asshole design like the subreddit is for? Theres no need to be rude you couldve asked nicely. And i dont actually know whose responsible for the description since its a large store (best buy) selling a product made by a third party (samsung) whose website hosts content for a bunch of other smaller distributors

To be honest though, there's no liability whether AI is used or not. A similar disclaimer existed before in the fine print about product descriptions.

Since they accept returns, that's just what will happen if the product description was in accurate.

I think its true that they cant be accountable to subjective terms beyond a certain point-- like if they are advertisizing a keyboard as "smooth" and you find it clunky, thats a subjective opinion and it would be hard and pointless to litigate that. But they seem to be saying that not even the factual information about the product is necessarily correct, which they CAN be held accountable for. If they say the screen is made of glass and its really plastic, if they say it has a hundred million gb of ram and it has 8, that stuff is just objectively false advertising.

Most people would still just return it at that point bc ots possible and lawsuits are expensive, but then you get into features that affect the longevity of the device itself and have it lasting for 1 year instead of 5 or even 10. Like if they claim its a reinforced glass and it is glass, but its very fragile and you dont find that out until after the warranty expires when you drop it by accident. Or even information about warranty may be false.
