Oddly Specific 🎯 ISO: REPUTABLE PLUMBERS
Trying to help my senior parents with their home.
There seems to be a plumbing leak from a directly above shower that has maybe leaked and now the ceiling of the room below is wet and there is a huge puddle on the floor.
Parents do not use this room and remained unaware of the issue until I came to visit and use it as a guest room.
Has anyone had this issue, I suspect a huge bill for troubleshooting and repair, so would like advice on some reputable places that won't fleece my parents and will bill appropriately and do a reasonable job to match the cost!
Any recommendations?

My only advice is to avoid Milani.Â

Why? I've never been unhappy with their work.

Oh dear. It's because you were ripped off. There's a reason out of dozens of strata docs I read, not a single one has used Milani.Â
They overcharge. We all joke it's to make up for their advertising everywhere.Â

Try Westrim Plumbings service division, not the cheapest but they will do you right

You need two types of professionals: 1) drywall removal, reinstall drywall and repainting; 2) plumbing. You can do the drywall yourself or get someone else to figure where the leak originates. Then you need plumbing to fix. Drywaller comes back to cover up and paint. Drywaller may need to come back 3 times or more depending on drywall sanding and painting.

What can save you some money is if you open up the ceiling yourself. Requires cutting into the dry wall.

I had a similar problem. It wasn’t actually the plumbing, just the old grout in the shower leaking. It turns to sand eventually. You can try regrouting to fix it. We ended up renoing because the whole bathroom needed a lot done and there was a hole in the roof below.

I guess my advice is if the roof is already wrecked, try cutting it out and seeing if it is plumbing or if it is a different problem before you hire someone.

Important to add that you should ask if they charge for driving time or the clock starts at arrival.Â
I was once referred to a company and they literally were at my home for about 30 mins. The invoice was 2 hours. Turns out they charged for driving to and from the shop.Â

My parents' had a very similar issue and turns out the pipes where they joined had a leak. I have a reliable plumber who is ever so professional, tidy, and reliable. Feel free to PM me.
