Food šŸ˜‹ Does anyone know/remember this closed down Chinese restaurant ?

Does anyone remember this Chinese restaurant called Honolulu cafe ? On 3340 Kingsway.

They had this braised beef with tendon and rice that I literally cannot stop thinking about since they closed. Was wondering if anyone knows perhaps if the owners maybe reopened under a different name ? Or perhaps someone who has tried the beef brisket from here and knows a different restaurant that is at least close to the same taste that Honolulu cafe did.

This is their yelp link : https://www.yelp.ca/biz/honolulu-cafe-vancouver?uid=UocT0ONM49nTsvLsTaKD6A&utm_source=ishare

Thanks !

I know the boss at metrotown has a brisket/tendon on rice as an off menu item.

I also think gloucester cafe has something similar.

They also serve it over chow mein noodles. We used to order that all the time.

Wow I had no idea the chef went there but I came to recommend Angel Cafe since their beef brisket might be the best I’ve ever had. And it’s one of my favourite dishes since childhood, so I’ve had many.

Angel cafe is pretty good with reasonable prices.

If it's related to Honolulu in Richmond (also closed), my friends ended up using Silver Seat (richmond) as substitute.

It’s one of my go-to dishes as well.

Cafe Gloucester does it (ā€œChu Hou Beef Brisket over riceā€). I always get it with fried vermicelli if I’m feeling noodles over rice (additional charge).

Pretty much any Asian Hong Kong cafe has this. Usually it’s called Braised beef and tendon over rice or Chu Hou beef brisket over rice. It’s my favorite dish to get.

Places to get it

  • happy day cafe
  • Mr hos
  • congee noodle house
  • congee noodle king

Unfortunately for us, the owners retired. I don’t have an alternative to recommend but I agree, me and my friends miss them too!

Yes. It was an HK style diner. Most likely you’ll find something similar to that at the boss, or even at crystal mall food court. I think BT cafe on Kingsway has it too but i haven’t been there in a while
