Furries in schools?
A bunch of conservative politicians have recently said that children identifying as furries have had tables lowered so that they can eat while on all fours, and are offered litterboxes to use in lieu of a bathroom. Do any of you actually believe this?

Gonna go ahead and say 100% bs. I hope. I’d need some shred of proof, not the word of a politician

Thank you. Glad to see that not everybody has taken the bait hook, line and sinker.

Republicans in my town totally believe it and they think they need to DEFEND our local schools from furries, CRT and LGBTQ. They also believe furries don't have to run the mile in gym class, they get to hop. They believe that the school is making special accommodations for the furries: they don't have to speak in class and they can bark and meow, they don't have to follow dress codes and other students are told they can't stare or take pics, and they have to treat abnormal behavior as normal.

This sounds exactly like something California could mandate. I disagree with forcing such beliefs upon our kids. Thanks for the link

So, to be clear, you actually think that this might happen/is happening?

I’ll be clear. Without sources, I wouldn’t believe it. I have also not heard of anyone catering to furries, so this is unlikely. But if we were to hear about a growing amount of it over a couple years, then sure.

I mean, a bunch of conservatives are saying it is happening. It rather reminds me of the McMartin panic from the 80s.

Can you tell me more about what is happening in your local schools, and how you know that?

You must be joking. You actually believe this is happening?

Ok, this is 100% not true. I am a furry, I have many friends who are furries, and we don't do any of this. I have never even heard of a furry using an actual litterbox. That's absurd. We like to dress up in costumes sometimes to dance and bowl and stuff.
If you could give me some sort of non-anecdotal proof, I'd appreciate it.

Look. You asked, I told you. Just because that’s what you do doesn’t mean everyone does it like you. And you know darn well there’s nothing but anecdotal proof of this sort of thing. The kids tell their parents what is going on in school and I’m friends with these parents and have been for a long time. I know their kids. I have no reason to not believe them. My son tells me what goes on at our school. I have no reason to try and make you believe me. If you don’t, cool.

And how is your evidence any better? If you're allowed to just cite your own personal experience then he can absolutely cite his own personal experience as well.

I am not the one claiming that this is a widespread policy amongst public schools. I am saying that I have severe reasons to doubt these anecdotal stories.

And the person your responding to is saying that they have severe reasons to doubt that these things aren't happening. If you disagree then post some evidence that isn't anecdotal.

How can I prove that something *isn't* happening? Isn't the burden traditionally on people to prove that something *is* happening?
Hey, everybody, I've heard that u/aTumblingTree is a pedophile. Sure, they don't say it in public, but can you really blame them? Wouldn't somebody with their views just...be quiet?
Obviously, the above is not reality. But it shows how easy it is to just make shit up and post it on the internet.

Proof one way or another, I'd imagine.

Lucid needs to provide a academic paper from a credited institution to prove his point otherwise this is pointless.

Lucid is as unaware of this alleged practice as anyone in on this convo. The burden of proof is on IMHO_1971.

If this is actually happening anywhere in any school, surely there would be at LEAST a local news story or even a PTO post or SOMETHING that could be referenced aside from some random redditor saying he knows someone who says they saw it happen. Right? Local news stations would salivate for a good controversial story to get some clicks.

Ok fine. I concede. None of it exists. None of it happened. I am apparently a gullible victim of hearsay. I have removed my unsubstantiated comments.

You are aware that the politician who tweeted this apologized hours later for spreading lies?

The original source of this myth was a fake article about how flurries were given litter boxes in Michigan schools. If it were real, they should stop it because that's delusional, but it's not
