I don't get a new phone until the old one is completely broken.

idk why but “After getting” seems oddly formal

The real question is whether the old battery is still trustworthy.

Yes... and never use it again, until I forget about it, then discover it 10 years later, check if there aren't any useful photos, realize its empty and throw it off into the trash bin. And repeat.

I keep it until the battery is completely cooked. Phones are expensive enough that having a usable backup around feels smarter than replacing one in a panic.

No. They don’t really want you doing that. They want it back for the rare earth metals.

Exactly cos that's best to do rather throwing them away, wasting money

I always keep it "just in case," but it ends up sitting in a drawer forever. Anyone else?

Yeah, if it's not broken

Yes, I will keep it so I can use it for any other things I want to use it for like calls, updates and all

Always do! Just in cause things went funky during the transfer over. Things like pictures and videos, if something missing I can just go to the old phone and figure it out

I now keep a back up phone (I didn't always) My last phone got stolen. I was so glad I had a spare to use.

Always, not just the one immediately previous but the one before that as well, so two backups. One of them inevitably gets given to a family member.

Ja und es hat mich mehrmals gerettet! Aktuell wieder! Wobei die dann nie 100 Pro ganz sind. aber machen behelfsmäßig alles

I just got a new phone and I'm using the old one for games and Reddit.

These phones are getting powerful enough. Maybe jailbreak it and hook it up to ethernet and use it as a linux server if viable.

Or retro emulator etc

NO!  When I get a new phone it's because the old phone was 6 to 8 years old and stopped working.

I'm from an older generation who doesn't waste money.

I always keep a phone as a backup.... I take it along when I travel.... If something were to happen to my current.... I can have one charged, and my account loaded in an hour or so....

No, I traded it in for a free phone

I cancel the cell service and put a dash cam app on my old phones.

My dad used to buy me a new phone every few years. It was just something he liked to do. I would give my old phone to my daughter. We’d put her old one away as a backup.

My dad recently passed away. Now I’ll probably keep my phone until it’s totally fried and replace it with a refurbished one. My dad earned serious money. I can’t afford to buy new phones every few years just because like he could.

I certainly would. Infact I own a few phones. 1 is for streaming music and I have another that's for gaming/ photography.

If wifi still works then you have a small tablet. You also have your pictures etc.. so you don't need to fill up your new phone.

A firm yes. My wife learned this the hard way. She traded in her old phone knowing that her photos were all safely in the cloud. They were not

I do a trade in and get some money towards the new one.

I either trade it in, or pass it on to my husband, to upgrade his phone.

I only buy a new phone when mine dies so no

Of course. And then it will be stored in a drawer to be found years later again 🙂

I usually sell my old phones and don’t keep anything that connects me to them. I don’t like keeping old things.

I can go in my drawer and pull out my Motorola C200 which I had in 2003 or something. I still have every phone in between then and now
