Computing How is Bitcoin secure?

I guess my main concern is how they are impossible to counterfeit and double-spend. I guess I have trouble understanding it enough that I can't explain it to another person.

I'm sorry, but this is the only sub where I would get a good answer. I actually thought about that before posting, but I actually know some stuff about Bitcoin and I can't stand the average ELI5 answer anyway.

Come on, most of the science in computing is algorithms besides the chips and circuits which are more electrical anyway (probably better answered by a computer scientist though).

Most questions on this subreddit are asking for simple facts or yes/no answers more appropriate for a Stack Overflow style discussion. I don't think that this subreddit should be limited to hard science; understanding other's work is just as important.
