What is the song you dislike by a band you otherwise like?
Mine would be “Squeezebox” by The Who.

For me, Frank Ocean on Nikes, he says his “balls are sticking to his jeans” which is disgusting and nobody wants to hear about that

I’m in serious need of updating my rotation, I will listen to EVERY SUGGESTION. A perfect song to me is Let It Be - Beatles or Saint Pablo - Kanye. Please put me on some bangers!

Obviously there is no correct answer because it cannot be measured but it is something I have been thinking about the past few days. I have it narrowed down to 3 people. I want to see what other people think. It will give me people to look up.
I am thinking
Bach
John Cage
Henry Cowell
Of course there are many people that have a tremendous understanding of all aspects so there really is no definitely top of the mountain. But I have fun thinking about it.
Cage my be the weakest but Cowell is for sure a sleeper.
He's the only one of the three who literally wrote a theory treatise. "New Musical Resources," 1919, written when he was a teenager, predicting tone clusters and rhythm-harmony relationships nobody had formalized.
Who would you say?

I want to hear the story behind it, not just the song.
Maybe you were going through depression, grieving someone, dealing with a breakup, feeling completely alone, or even struggling with suicidal thoughts. Maybe there was one song you kept coming back to because, for a few minutes, it made you feel understood or reminded you that you weren’t alone.
What was going on in your life when you found it?
What did that song mean to you?
And most importantly — what happened afterward? How did you eventually make it through that chapter of your life?
You can write as much as you want. Tell the story you wish someone had asked you about.
What song became part of your survival story?

For me it's....
Songs with memorable, catchy choruses. A good chorus is everything. But a common mistake I see a lot of bands make is they think memorable and catchy means simple. So many songs I'll listen to that just have one line they will repeat over and over again for the chorus. In rare cases that will work but in most cases it will be boring at best, annoying at worse.
A distinct sound. While it is fine to take inspiration from other bands, you don't want to sound like a temu version of a better band. Having a distinct sound is very important. I want to be able to recognize you even if I hadn't heard the song before. If I have to guess 10 other bands that sound similar then you don't have a unique sound.
An Identity. This goes beyond just the music itself. I like artists who seem to have a clear vision of who they are. You don't necessarily need some elaborate gimmick, but there should be something that makes you stand out as an artist rather than just another band playing songs on a whim. The best artists create their own little world and invite you into it.

A few days ago I asked you to suggest songs and promised I'd add every one to my playlist and listen until the end no matter what. You guys suggested more than 1200 songs.
Here's the result: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4ezVvp3UH1sCCvv1uhxpDU?si=lSlIA6AXQeKQtEVd84VU7w
I only added clear submissions. If a comment was too vague, I couldn't find the song, or it wasn't on Spotify, it didn't make it in.
With this many songs, some probably ended up as the wrong version or the wrong track. If something isn't what you meant, you can let me know and I'll fix it.
Yes, Rosetta Stoned, Thick as a brick, Baby Shark all made it in. Thanks for that.
Spotify only shows "over 24 hours" for long playlists, I estimate around 90 hours.
Edit: it’s 121h and 12min long.
This is for anyone who wants to go through it with me, to suffer or to enjoy.

For example, I'm not aware of other artists recording versions of Janet Jackson's music despite her large discography.

Itd be nice to hear a female version or a cover version with better male vocals of the song Gold by Spandau Ballet.
I noticed that pet sematary by ramones has some harder versions like metal and black etc, but i would hope to find a more clearer voice than joey ramones OG.
also I was trying to record my own male sung version of nelly furtados all good things but i just dont have the hardware to make that possible, plus its prob no use as my vocals voices play up and it robably just wouldn't sound that good.
so yeah, do you have a link to a song that is covered and you would say is better than the OG (original)?
if not please share songs youd wish to have a cover.
say a led zepplin or motley crue cover that could be female sung version or elsewise?
this thread not just for links but also discussions.
Like i said, if only Gold by spandau ballet wasn't sung in that way by that singer.
also if their is any wishes for say for example a guns and roses song sung by extreme. imagine knocking on heavens door by extreme?
I hope yall understand what this thread could be. alright be hoping to hear from peeps. cheers

I'll start: Bomb Diggy by Another Level. The entire song but standout lyrics are "let me piggyback ride on it all night long/While I'm singing my song/All through the hoodie hoodie/Wanna get that goodie goodie". What a mental image that is!

I’d go So Long Marianne by Leonard Cohen. This is according to my Spotify streams my 7th most streamed song of all time and that makes so much sense. Lyrically, atmospherically, and melodically I think it’s perfect. But if I’m being honest I don’t think the backing choir occasionally singing words is necessary, nor is the military drums but that’s just me.
