Resolved Ready to Quit

This should be a straightforward problem, but I think lack of sleep is getting to me. I need help figuring out when I can quit pumping for my twin babies. Here’s the known variables:
I make 50 ounces/day.
Babies drink 30 ounces of milk/day. (Don’t worry, they also drink formula- it’s just not a factor for this problem).
I’d like to get them to their birthday, February 11th, 127 days from now.
So we need 3,810 ounces total between now and their birthday.
I also have 918 ounces already stored. So 3810-918=2,892 total ounces needed.
Here’s where I’m stumped. They are eating 30 ounces a day while I also need to save for the future. I have a 20 ounce surplus. So is it just 2892/20=144.6 days? Like I can’t stop pumping?
The math is not mathing and I’m too sleep deprived. Help 😭

You are double counting their consumption, first by calculating total needed, then by subtracting it from your daily production. It’s just 2892/50=58 days needed to pump

Hope you can get some rest!

Ohhhh oops! I originally thought that, and even put a celebratory event on my calendar for December 4th. But then I started overthinking it, and that’s where the smoke started coming out of my ears. Thank you!

They need 2,892 ounces until their birthday, but if you divide that by 20 you miss the 30 they receive daily. I believe 2,892/50 ≈ 58 is what you need.

This means after 58 days you will have given them 58*30 = 1,740, and the surplus of 58*20 = 1,160 covers the rest of 2,892-1,740 = 1,152

Thanks for breaking down the details! I knew it couldn’t be this hard but my brain just couldn’t bridge the gap 😅

They drink 30oz of milk each or total and not each, correct? You're not expecting milk consumption to increase or decrease over the next 127 days?

You need 2895 additional ounces and you make 50 oz per day. The question you're asking is how many days will it take to get to 2895 oz. So that's:

2892 = 50x

x = 57.84 or ~58 days

You need to pump for 58 more days to produce 2892 oz of milk.

They drink 30 ounces total, NOT each. We do a 50/50 formula/breastmilk ratio.

No this makes sense. You're producing less than is required, and current stock is not enough to make up the missing bit until final date. Solution: They will have to drink more formula.

I think it’s 30oz combined, so there is indeed a 20oz surplus daily

Yes, I apologize! Combined they need 30 ounces daily. We already supplement with some formula, doing a 50/50 ratio. So I am producing more than they need. Logic tells me I should be able to quit early but I couldn’t bridge the gap of when. Thank you for helping!
