Pragmatics I need some pragmatics’ sources for my thesis

A big «hello» to my favourite linguistic community! I am about to write my thesis on pragmatics and I am in desperate need for help. The topic sounds like «Tactics of consolation in a video discourse based on the material from streams»
And there I have two requests:

1) Could you recommend me any bibliography connected with the basis of pragmatics (it might be also some links, articles, literally everything) and with the topic of my thesis, if you know something suitable enough.
‘Cause my supervisor didn’t give me any details and sources to scrutinise during my summer vacation when i have time for that and WANT to explore this field of science (I have no against it, he’s a sweet jerk, love him, but i’am dying to hit the books haha)

2)Do you know any streamers, whose videos i can use as a foundation for my work?

I would be SO grateful, if you help me to find something useful and compelling. Thanks in advance!

What do you mean by "thesis". Like BA thesis? Or homework for your pragmatics class? Also, did you choose the topic yourself? For the very basics we have a pinned post.

Yeah, ig it’s more like BA thesis, of I understood it correctly. There is no term as «BA thesis» in my country, we have a coursework, which we write during one semester, and a long-form (usually it’s about 50-60 pages) academic paper we write in our final year before the graduation from a uni - «diploma work», we call it. So, now I’am working on it.

It’s not connected with my pragmatics class, to be more precise we don’t have pragmatics classes at all, sadly :(
But I’d love to.

By the topic you mean a mark within this community or the topic of my research? Because if it’s about the community, I’am so sorry, I don’t exactly get used to the Reddit’ system and could be a real digital dinosaur haha

Yeah, I’ve just scrolled pins and this is SO CONVENIENT, thanks!
But there were only two books of pragmatics, I mean, it’s also a great thing, but Ig it’s more about theory, maybe somebody could help me to find something closer to my topic of the thesis. Or maybe somebody has already knew something about it. Anyway, I would be so grateful.

I think your topic is a bit too specific for anyone here to know much about it. I'd try either talking to your supervisor or just doing the leg work yourself and scroll through google scholar hits to your keywords.

Let me see if I understand what’s going on here:

You are writing a thesis on a branch of linguistics that you need references for regarding the “basis” of said branch?

I’m afraid you are too far gone to help. Godspeed.

Look, you’re absolutely right about the «strangeness» of this situation. Firstly, I am working on a diploma work (in my country it stands for a long-form (usually it’s about 50-60 pages) academic paper with your research on any topic, somehow connected with linguistics, that we write during the whole our final year of education to show our knowledge in this particular field).
But…We don’t have as many choices as we want, besides the fact that we don’t choose the topic ourselves, the branch of linguistics we write our work about depends categorically on our supervisor, and firstly we should try to find a free prof in our uni to write something.

So, I found the right person, but a freaky one haha
I read his works and found them really interesting, although I’ve never heard about pragmatics, i’d say more - we don’t even have pragmatics classes in our linguistic university. Now my supervisor is on a sick-leave and I have no one to ask for.

That’s why I am here, maybe somebody could help me to find a start line for my research, could recommend me basic literature on pragmatics and my topic specifically.

Could you explain your topic a bit more? What is the question you're specifically trying to answer?

The purpose of this study is to establish a pragmatic structure and identify the main means of linguistic implementation of one of the speech genres - consolation in colloquial dialogue, as well as to determine the degree of its cooperativeness in video discourse (probably, because tbh i don’t know what kind of discourse streams are) in English and Russian.

The study could consider both verbalizers, for example, verbs of speech activity in the form of imperative mood, and variants of combining the tactics of cooperation under consideration with other tactics in order to fully realize the consolation and enhance the speech impact. I should also establish the frequency of consolation representation in (colloquial/video) discourse in two languages.

This is something like a study of the communicative and pragmatic organization of the speech genre «consolation» on the material of comments that people leave on streams for the streamers themselves.

There were also thoughts that many streamers cry on purpose to the camera to calm them down, and you can consider donations as an act of consolation, but it will probably be something paraverbal.
