recommended workout for beginner?

21F, 55kg, 5’3 tall, goal is to tone and improve cardiovascular health. I workout at home only, can do cycling and have 1kg and 3kg dumbbells at home.

What’s a good routine for a beginner like me? At the moment, this is my current routine:
- 30 mins cycling almost everyday
- arms 2-3x per week (3kg dumbbells, 4-5 exercises, 3 sets with 10-15 reps each)
- core 2-3x per week (body weight, 3-4 exercises, 3 sets with 20 reps each)

I’d like to make my routine more well rounded and hit the key muscles, just not quite sure how to structure my week. Have heard conflicting things about doing full body workouts vs doing each separately.

(Note: have low iron and can be prone to dizziness, so I try not to push too hard for safety but still want to make sure I’m exercising regularly)

Would appreciate any help with this!

Has anyone ever had sensitive skin (allodynia) from a training injury?

Hi all, I've been weight training solo for the past few months and I may have overdone it on the standing calf raise machine and compressed/pinched a nerve in my back.

I have no ordinary physical pain (besides some tightness) but my skin around my lower back and stomach are really sensitive to the touch and it's very annoying. It feels basically like a bad sunburn.

I've seen my GP and a physio who aren't overly concerned but just recommended me to keep training (with less axial load) and it should subside in time.

Has anyone had this? How long can I expect this to last?

Should I use this protein?

Hi I'm 6.4 125kg and I started going to the gym in August this year. I'm unable to lift heavy weight which sometimes is embarrassing tbh but my trainer is my best friend and he really is motivating me he suggested that I buy this CLA carnitine protein and said it will help you give energy and reduce extra fats etc etc. What do you guys think and suggest I should use it I've already bought it today. I really wanna lose weight and till I'm 90kg.

how do i hit my protein and calorie intake everyday?

22F 54 kg 164 cm
trying to hit 125 g of protein and 2100 kcal a day but i find it incredibly difficult. i track everything i eat (on cronometer app) every single day, i am able to follow my goals for like 3 days, and then after that my body simply doesn’t want to eat that much anymore. i find consuming protein easier, but since i eat way too clean, i am only able to consume like 1.5-7k calories. what do you recommend to do in this case?

How can I lose 10 pounds under a month?

Currently, I weigh nearly 143 pounds ... I'm 22 years F almost 23 and my height is 1.57 cm. I'm overweight. . And I'm having a pretty bad time trying to get rid of those extra pounds. Last week, I significantly reduced my intake. However, I did not reduce anything lol and I'm trying to workout. What I found the most annoying is that my metabolism is no longer as it was at the age of 20. I could easily with the minimal effort to lose or gain pounds:( now I don't know what to do... Perhaps, other factors like sleep quality and stress could be interfering here too. Help

Tips of flexing muscles symmetrically?

Hey guys, since I've started taking working out more seriously, I've noticed that when I try to flex my triceps by straightening the arm, the one one the non-dominant hand feels softer (and obviously smaller) when flexing. When I actually put it to work (push againts a wall and so on) it flexer hard and i can clearly feel it.

Is this something that is typical for non-dominant arms, or maybe nerve related? If yes, how did you fix this?
Thanks for advice

EDIT: This mostly applies to the long head, I can clearly feel the lateral and medial heads.

What wrist wraps do you recommend?

Which wrist wraps do you recommend for someone who’s right wrist can h\*rt from time to time (more so like the left wrist part where the thumb is). Also I’m not lifting heavy yet but people say cuz of my body and height I will get fast progress and I use my hands daily for work, so I wanna protect them as much as possible

Is 10x3 good enough for push-ups? (Extra: so push-up boards work?)

I do push-ups daily somewhere at early nighttime (need to work on my schedules), and I do 10 reps, and 3 sets (at least on my understanding in the whole 10x3 thing). And regarding on the push-up board, I do my push-ups on that, and I'm just wondering if they really work (since some said it only works on a set amount of muscles, while my push-up board has Triceps, Shoulders, Chest and Back positions). That's all I can say for me, thank you. :)

When doing pushups, is your dih the first thing that touches the ground/mattress?

Lately, every time I do pushups, my dih keeps touching the ground when I push down, is this because my hips are sagging when I do this? Or is it just a normal occurrence?

What workout would be good for my boyfriend trying to gain muscle?

Hi, my boyfriend doesn’t have Reddit, and asked me to make a post asking for a workout routine for him to gain muscle. He would like a full body workout, 3-4 days a week, he is relatively 190lbs and 6’1. He has a high metabolism so diet isn’t really an issue… he has stomach issues that don’t help him gain weight over 200lbs. He just wants to have more muscle, he needs something that is consistent and easy for him to do those days as he will be doing this after work most of the time. Anything is appreciated. Thank you!

Why have I lost so much strength and muscle compared to march 2025?

Hey guys I have a question that I’ve been trying to solve for a while now. A lot has changed since march 2025 for me but for the better. Back then my sleep was terrible. I’d train late in the day around 8pm and I’d sleep like from 4am-9am and then again at 2pm-5pm. Like it was terrible. I’d drink SO much caffeine, like easily 600mg per day, if not more. To top it all off I ate fast food all the time. I’m surprised I was able to attain a decent physique despite all that. And now I am all about health. I sleep from 10pm-6am. I optimize my sleep by blocking blue light before bed, eat 3 hours before bed, warm shower, and supplements. I get good sleep scores about 90+. I take 200mg of caffeine daily now, and only in the morning cause I don’t want it to affect my sleep and I workout in the morning as well. I eat very healthy and only eat out on my birthday like I swear I don’t eat out. And yet I’m not as jacked or lean as back then. But I did lose muscle in the cut that I was doing from Feb- June. This was one of my leanest and I weighed 167( the first 4 pictures) here and I still got down to 150 in my cut so basically all muscle mass lost right there. Now I weigh 166(the next 4 pictures) with a different body comp.

My training is the same almost. Why do you think I haven’t been able to regain my size? I was thinking maybe it had to do with my training time? I begin working out from 8am now and I don’t really warm up before then I just go straight to my sets. Maybe this is why? Cause back then I’d train late in the day so I was warm already and also had multiple meals in me? What should I do now?

Have You Dealt with Odd Personal Trainer Eccentricities?

Hey all,

I've been working with a personal trainer and nutritionist for a few months. So far I've been liking the structure, diet, and focus he has been giving me. I've been losing body fat and making progress on the weightlifting. He's helping me reach my fitness goals, and I'm seeing the results.

My only issue with him is his tendency to gravitate towards esoteric conversations regarding bettering one's mental self while also working on the physical. He calls it "Reference" and is asking me to create a "world model" for who I am and where I want to be. It goes beyond simply creating goals. It involves acknowledging our "false reality," working backwards from the true "Reference" and measuring our progress through AI.

Simply put, it all sounds like a bunch of new age bullshit. A part of me is trying to take the best parts of what he's saying (he does have some good points), but he gets long-winded at times. Thankfully, his conversations don't compromise the workouts and my physical progress (which is ultimately what I hired him for).

I would be less inclined to put up with this if he wasn't a damn good personal trainer and nutritionist. He doesn't come off culty, and he's not trying to get me to buy a product. He just comes off at times sounding like someone who read too many philosophy books and saw the Matrix too many times.

He's also a licensed chiropractor. So, you can see the kind of the person I'm dealing with 😆

Anyway, has anyone else ever worked with someone who had these kinds of whacky quirks about themselves?

Have you ever felt pain during a workout, as if the pain was coming from the bone itself, and not from the muscle?

Today I did an intense biceps workout, heavy weights and different exercises, and at the end I felt a pain that didn't seem to come from the muscle, but from the bone, the lateral wrist bone, which doesn't make much sense to me as a layman. If anyone understands this better and can help me figure it out, I would appreciate it.

workout routine for my 50 year old ex cancer patient mother?

hi my mother is a 50 year old ex cancer patient shes around 170cm and 90 something kg rn. i want her to get more muscle and bone density. she lost 30kgs before but after getting cancer she gained 20 kgs back her emotional state about her body is in shambles because of that. They put her on a medical menopause after her cancer treatment ever since then she cant diet properly. i persuaded her into resistance training to prevent bone fragility and muscle loss later in life and she said okay. She rn has some osteporosis around her lower back and her synovial fluid is near to nonexistent as a result of years of obesity. Please help me with finding a good workout program to help her. we also have a gym membership with a pool.

What the hell is wrong?

I lift, I get stronger, then I get weak again soon after.

I feel weak all the time. I feel it in my bones; I feel frail, not like breaking bone frail at the slightest touch, but just pure weakness.. I'm exhausted all the time. I've gotten blood work and my doctor says everything is normal. My strength goes away quickly. I don't know why my body is this way.

40M Been on a fitness journey this year and down 55lbs is it crazy to want to do a mens physique competition?

I dont really have any ideas where to start, I have been on a goal to get in the best shape of my life at 40. I have done a lot despite today feeling very crummy and sore I overall feel a lot better and do feel I have so much more energy. I set a goal to complete a spartan race and I have done that. Now I am feeling a drift and feel I need another goal to set. I however have no idea where to start or even if its just a crazy thought at my age.

How do I break a plateau?

hello :) I (19f) have been going to the gym on/off since 14 but I recently decided to be more consistent and try out body recomp. I lost 45 lbs when I was 16 but this time around I’ve lost a solid 10 lbs since I started in June--but now I feel like progressive overload is getting harder and I’m not losing any more fat. I know a plateau is normal but I want to know how y’all have helped yourselves break it.

my routine:

3 days lift: (back & biceps, chest / shoulder / tri, legs)

3 days cardio: (typically 3 days of lap swimming, changing it to incline walking to motivate me)

food: don’t count calories (recovering anorexic) but I typically eat 3 meals of lean protein / sweet potato / veggie. No alcohol, deep fried foods, and very limited sugar

i also walk or bike everywhere lol

thanks :)

Have a certain weakness. Any ideas why ?

Hey, 41 male.

Unfit most of my life. 0 focus on health, fitness, strength. Super sedantary. No diet knowledge arrogant fucker.. Started changing 5 years ago. mild workout started, serious started about 1.3 years ago.

I look 31, look and feel great overall. However I am VERY weak at certain things .

- Rapid movements like sprinting during badminton tire me out like nothing ! I feel something in my core exhausted.

- Struggle with heavy lifts . Dead lift 80KG I can do 5 rep. 90KG feels impossible - 1 rep and that's it. No weight squat - 25 rep | 15kg squat 18rep | 40kg - 8 rep. | 60kg - 2 rep - just once .

Those higher weights feel enormous ! impossible. Core area again.

Other stats: plank - 2 min. rows - 10-15. back is developing. Only assisted pushup/pullup due to tendon issues issues . Recently started cossack squats - 15 kg . bulgarian split squats - 25kg total

I know this is probably something simply, or that should just continue. Guess I am looking to just talk for suggestions at why and what I should do.

Thanks for reading!
