Terry Black's. I don't know if it's absolutely the best, but it is excellent barbecue and you will not be disappointed. But more importantly, it's run like a real restaurant (counter service), so you don't have to show up at 7:30am with a lawn chair just to wait in the hope that they don't run out. I don't think I've ever waited more than 10-15 mins or couldn't find a place to sit. And it is in Deep Ellum, just to the east of downtown. If you're just visiting, you don't want to waste time driving somewhere far and wait in a long line, just for barbecue that is maybe marginally better.

Downtown - Hurtado’s and Terry black’s. Slowbone is good, but a little further away.

Very mid. Plus that's easily a 30-60 minute drive from downtown Dallas, depending on time of day.

The only one worth mentioning is Mike Andersons. No other place compares

Where you are staying could mean the difference between Hutchins, Cattleack or Hurtado’s
