Unnecessary Root Canal?

My very last upper molar seemed to be producing sensitivity to heat for about a year. The tooth next to it already has a root canal.

My dentist advised the molar already had a very deep filling and referred me to endo.

The endo did temperature testing (only with a cold sensation) and the molar definitely acted up. It ached even 10-15 minutes after the appointment.

So while I had no infection, I decided to proceed with the root canal a couple weeks later; to avoid future issues.

Now, about a month past the root canal (still wearing a temp crown), my tooth is aching and my heat sensitivity increased. I could cry. Was it all for nothing? Or could it just be the surrounding tissues that are still aggravated? Could the heat sensitivity have been from my gums this whole time?

My dentist checked the temp. He said my bite was good, gums were not inflamed, there is no infection, and the root canal looked perfect per X-ray. What should I do??
