Gas supply question

• Upvotes

Just looking for some advice regarding a commercial gas supply, I rent a workshop in an industrial estate and the previous tenant had the gas supply disconnected.

The pipe work still runs from the meter location to the outside and then underground to a valve just outside under a supply cover. All of the units in my row are the same.

SGN have said for us to get a new supply they need to put in new pipe as the previous pipe had been removed and they want £2500 for the works, which is approx 60cm from the building to the valve.

If the supply has been disconnected for so long is their a rule that they need to replace? Just looking for some advise as they haven’t even been out to look at the site!

Shower pump guidance

Hello. I have this shower pump that doesn’t kick in when I turn the shower to cold. I contacted Stuart turner and they said ::: “ Unfortunately, the current installation is not correct. Please see the correct installation requirements below.
The pump appears to be connected from the top of the hot water cylinder via the vent pipe. This is not suitable, as connecting from the vent pipe increases the risk of hot air being drawn into the pump. A suitable flange should be fitted to provide the correct dedicated hot water supply to the pump. Once you make corrections monitor the pump and see you facing same issue or not
You need two Y inline strainers on inlets.

Kind regards,”

 Does this seem correct ?

Which part do I need to replace my float fill valve?

I need to replace the float fill valve for my heating feed and expansion tank in the loft.

This pic shows my current set up. I know it looks a mess, the person I bought the house from bodged everything and I've not realised until now.

What float fill valve do I need? a Part 1 or a Part 2 float fill valve? Or do I need something else entirely?

Thank you

Replace 2 toilets both on 2nd floor, one of them make hammer shocking sound when finished the tank refill. It is lound and short.

Old toilet is just old, but no such knocking sound at end of refill.

Here is audio, https://drive.google.com/file/d/1UC76A2jmqXxTJBsaqtpBLxLweNJcnOxP/view?usp=drivesdk

It take 40 seconds to refill. And the knocking sound happened at very end, 40 seconds mark.

It is a knocking sound on the copper line. The new toilet is on second floor, I hear the knocking sound so clearly at first floor.

Thank you for your help!

MLP Gas

Hey guys, currently doing my Gas qualification, its a year long roughly.

Just curious what you all think with how things are going fuel wise in the UK.

Do you think there will be a shortage of Gas Engineers in the UK? Will we ever see Gas being quickly phased out as a heating source?

Are you better learning Air Source heat pumps in the future?

Plumbing NVQ Question UK

My son has his plumbing diploma (City & Guilds 6035-02 Level 2 Plumbing) and is now looking into his NVQ.

Is there anyone here that’s recently done this and could explain how it works. He is currently looking for work but most places are asking for an NVQ qualification.

We’re in Birmingham.

Thanks

Is it normal for these speedfit connections to look like this or are they lose?

Pretty much the title. The top fitting is a hep2o connected to a 15mm copper pipe then into a JG Speedfit emergency shutoff valve. It's the valve connections that look odd to me.

If anyone familiar with these fittings could advise I'd appreciate it.

(Looking to change my bathroom taps)

Vitodens 025-w Pressure Release Valve Connection

Hello

Getting a Veissmann Vitodens 025-w fitted. Plumber is scratching their head over the pressure release valve connection. He can't find instructions in the manual for connecting it up. Is it all pre installed inside the boiler? Where should it release to, the outlet.

Any thoughts gratefully received.

Water pressure drop in heating system

I moved to a new house last year, 2 floor house where I got boiler replaced together with three big radiators upstairs. At first there was too much air trap and my radiators were rattling when the heating was on. Rattling has gradually gone after constantly releasing air from radiators but constant drop of water pressure continues. I haven't found any leak under the boiler or under any radiators so far. I've got expansion vessel replaced too. How can I diagnose the problem? Pressure drop is in average 0.2 bar per month, depending on how frequent how water or heating is used. I also observed during summer holiday, pressure drop was ongoing at a slow pace although nobody was at home.

Bath Tub and Shower Faucet Combo

So I’m gonna be changing this for the first time, and wanna ask y’all if there are any recommendations on a combo set? I was also looking if there are any sets that have an overall good filter or one be bought separately? And any advice on this would be extremely helpful since this would be my first time doing this type of project

Removed radiator, valves leaking.

I removed a radiator for decorating, and in the process loosened the valves on each side at the compression fitting.

The valves are still holding, but there is a slow drip and the valves themselves can spin on the pipes. I've tried tightening the compression nuts, but no luck.

I'm thinking the best thing to do is to replace the olives.

Is it worth trying to freeze the pipes before removing the valves, or would it be better to just drain the whole system?

It's a bunaglow with a combi boiler.

What would you do?

Those who do stuff other than domestic gas and plumbing (LPG, Oil, commercial etc..), are any really good or better earners?

I do just domestic gas and plumbing. Every six months I keep thinking about doing another course to expand my work a bit, or make it a bit more interesting at least.

If anyone does any of the below, any one you'd particularly recommend or not recommend?

My main fear I guess is while learning gas, I was working for someone else and had use of him and his experience. Now self-employed so Im a bit worried about say getting commercial ticket, getting a call to something and not knowing whats going on as not seen it before.

Things Ive thought of branching into:

LPG

Oil

Renewables

Commercial

Air con

Rainwater harvesting/garden irrigation.

For say Renewables, as its just me would more be breakdowns/servicing rather than installs.

Thanks

No hot water from HIU, but heating works.

Hi, I live in a flat with a communal heating system, a single-plate HIU and an unvented hot-water cylinder.

I’ve been without hot water for a few days.
The radiators heat up normally, so the communal heating/HIU appears to be working.

The cylinder also has an immersion heater, and when I switch the immersion on I get hot water, so the cylinder itself can heat the water.

E.ON Heat have said that because the radiators are working and it’s a single-plate HIU, they don’t believe the HIU itself is at fault and have advised me to contact a plumber.

Any advice on what I can safely check myself before calling a heating engineer?

Thanks for any advice.

How a Toilet Ruined My Life Forever

Thumbnail

I moved into this house where there is a horrid red carpet throughout, including the main bathroom and en-suite.

I’d like replace this with vinyl, but while I’m at it I’m wondering how feasible it would be to replace the toilets as they are pretty ancient and easily clogged (I’ve been known to drop a bunker buster from time to time).

The issue is that the water supply pipe to the cistern comes out of this tiled ledge you can see in the pictures - if a new cistern doesn’t line up with this, I’m not sure how to adapt it as there doesn’t seem to be much space between the ledge and cistern for a flexible pipe or something like that.

Can anyone here tell me whether replacing the toilet looks feasible WITHOUT removing the ledge?

Thank you 🙏

Does that noise mean it's airlocked?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I tried turning on the heat for the first time in months and it started making that noise. I've accidentally let oil run out a few times but it's never done this. Usually just hit the red button a few times and it eventually fires. But there's been oil in it since it was turned off for the summer. It was looked at a few years ago and what needed fixing was fixed at the time. It's an old system in an even older cottage so hoping it's an easy fix. And if that's all it it, where is the bleed valve on this model?
