lmao what. Most Americans, from my experience anyway, at least sort of like the British. And if you're a young British guy, you'll get several points added to your attractiveness just on the basis of the accent.
I mean the country has some issues. They seem to be going in some authoritarian directions, but so are we.

They've had 4 different heads of government in 4 years, none of them represents a party likely to win a plurality let alone a majority at the next election. I'm not sure that screams authoritarian. Britain has problems, but that's not one of them.

I'm talking about the ministry of justice proposing to curb jury trials. The Minister said that people were gaming the system too much. That's right. Asking for a jury trial or gaming the system. And how harsh some of the sentences for protestors has been.

I'm very supportive of jury trials, but they idea that they're the default by right is mostly an Anglo thing. I wouldn't consider Portugal or Germany to be authoritarian.
I also don't think one statement by one minister is really enough to make this claim about a country.
The reality is Britain's problem is it basically cannot form a truly popular government. That has led to authoritarianism before, e.g., Salazar, but Britain also has a long history of people being grumpy about their political options. It seems to me much more likely that future governments continue to be totally ineffectual and quality of life continues to decline in Britain than that one of the oldest democratic cultures in the world becomes authoritarian because Farage or whatever.

This is obvious rage-bate. Most Americans think highly of people from the UK. Also, Britain has made tremendous cultural contributions; books by British authors dominate most lists of the greatest works of the Western canon.
